Re: PDQ 36 Rudders

Hey guys, Seawater does indeed come up through the rudder shaft. The problem is that the fiberglass enclosure for the rudder shaft that goes up through the "water tight" compartment can crack. I believe that this happens more often in northern boats. I believe the bushing gets lost or goes...

Re: 36 LRC battery wiring?

Thanks, That sounds very similar to my set up. Except for the even stranger fact that you have double 1-2-both switches for the starting batteries. Yesterday, I messed with the 1-2-both switch settings at the starting batteries. In the "both" position, both engines started. In the 1 positi...

36 LRC battery wiring?

OK, I've finally decided to get a deeper understanding of the battery wiring for the 36 LRC with Yanmar diesels. I've attached a picture which is commonly represented as what a "1-2-both-off" switch does on a boat. This is not what the salon 1-2-both-off switch does on the LRC. Say, the ho...

Re: Netting measurements

Hey Frank, The 1989 is pretty old, and things like that changed a bit over time. There are 2 things you can do: First, call Sunrise Yachts Products, they've done almost everyone's nets. See if they have a record of doing a PDQ about that old. I assume you were going to use them anyway. They're great...

Re: supporting the hull on a 36

Chet White (Allezcat) had his 36 on a lift in SW Florida for a number of years before he sold it. Never a problem as far as I know. He did a bunch of pretty hairy trips ton the Bahamas with no problems. You should send him a private message I think he still monitors this board. He's super smart and ...

Re: Imitation (inexpensive) Teak in the cockpit

Hey Eric, It looks very cool. I have a couple questions. From the link and from the Ultralon website video, one thing isn't clear to me. Did you cut templates, then send the templates to them, and they cut they actual teak foam and sent it to you? Or did you order standard sheets and then use your t...

Re: Windlass and Anchor Chain

Wiring back to the house bank is simplest, but the wire gets expensive. On Anne Z I spent as much on the wire as I did on the windlass. If you can find a source for cheaper copper, that would be helpful. Come by and check out the setup on Cat Tales when you get a chance.

Re: Question about tabbing under bulkhead between berths

Yup, that's it. The whole thing is a sandwich, with the true bulkhead in the middle, lead lined foam insulation on either side of that, then thin plywood for the outer part (the part you can actually touch while laying in the bunk). I've replaced the outer thin plywood with that thin white plastic s...

Re: Question about tabbing under bulkhead between berths

I'll post more about this when I'm not on the iPhone. But 2 quick thoughts: 1) this problem is almost certainly a leak at the baby stay. Feel the area where the chain stay bolts to the bulkhead between bunks. It's usually on the starboard side of the bulkhead and you have to reach up there. Is it ro...

Re: 32 LRC prop pitch

I would say you are overpropped. I have a PDQ 36 LRC with 2GM20's and WOT is more like at least 3200. I can't recall prop size and pitch, but I'll look at the docs next time I'm at the boat.

Re: Where does head hose connect to holding tank?

Jim, No, the hose from the toilet goes under the bathroom floor, then on the side of the shower (you can see it when you open then inspection port), then through the bulkhead to the holding tank. The "exit hose" should be a single hose exiting the holding tank which then splits into two ho...

Re: Replacment Trampoline & Sails from original

Ron from Triton is a nice guy, but he's slow. Took him 6 months to make me an asymmetrical spin. Also, communication was very poor. On the other hand, I've used Sunrise 4 times ( 2 Hobies, 2 PDQ's) and never had a bad experience. I think you made the right move.
