Re: Yanmar Tachometers

BluNoser -- On our 34, we had one flybridge tach go bad. Reason unknown. Replaced it at around $200. We do have a plexiglass cover that keeps the rain off tho probably not absolutely watertight.

Solenoid toilet valve

On Gadzooks! the valve which admits water to the toilet is a problem. It opens insufficiently or not at all. Same with both "flush" and "fill". The unit is ITT 370450092, sold by Jabsco, I believe. I replaced the whole assembly with no improvement. I have opened it up, lubricated...

Re: Pressure Water Pump Relocation?

Ours, on hull #33, is located on the forward locker wall just where the pipe comes thru the water tank forward. It is accessible by taking up the dinette cushion and lifting the plywood cover from the locker. Fairly convenient. They probably had to relocate to accommodate the later interior configur...

If you don't get an answer otherwise, direct your question to James Power, who has worked on PDQs for years, and is a frequent poster on the PDQ Forum.

Re: Fuel Polisshing?

Will look up the Passagemaker article. I probably read it at the time but retain only the feeling that they were generally highly in favor. Of course, trawlers are their thing. I did get some bad fuel once and cleared it up using a homemade portable polisher. All it was was a pump and a big filter p...

Fuel Polisshing?

Has anyone installed a fuel polishing system on an MV34? If so, please provide details. It seems to me that with the addition of a filter and a couple Y-valves, one could use the fuel transfer motor to create a fuel polisher. Some unknowns, of course: e.g. is the motor powerful enough? Would there b...

Spray Deflector Repair

I've proved several times that docks are stronger than the MV34 spray deflectors on the bows. After having no success in buying replacements, I undertook to do it myself. Ingredients for the fix: 1. West System 150 resin, 206 hardener, 404 filler, and 406 filler. 2. Aluminum 1" x 1" angle....

Re: Bilge Alarms & Pumps

Re: Seacocks. How about a piece of plastic pipe with a slot cut in the end that would fit over the seacock lever. The idea is to extend one's reach to enable operation from the bunk board level. A hole at the top to accommodate a long bolt or such to form a T-handle might be needed to increase lever...

Re: Flying a club burgee on a power cat!?!

Is there anything that says the burgee has to be a piece of cloth? How about painting a burgee (or a burgee vinyl stick-on) on each side of the flybridge exterior? As far forward as possible before the surface turns athwartship. Would have its advantages --no hassle putting it up and down; no noisy ...

Re: Bullet Zincs

I lost a bunch of the propnut zincs before switching to the recommended method of reversing the bolt to threaded end aft. Haven't lost one since over a course of 1000 miles or so.

Re: Flying a club burgee on a power cat!?!

Yes, interesting. I default to Chapman when there is no good reason to do otherwise. I do like to keep the foredeck area as clear as possible for line handling -- setting a bridle as mentioned but also deploying crab traps and washing down/removing kelp from the anchor and rode. Also we usually tie ...

Re: Flying a club burgee on a power cat!?!

We fly ours from the starboard "spreader" (i.e. the starboard extremity of the antenna/radar/stern light tubing) on the mast. Unless we are in Canada, then we fly it from the port side as the Canadian courtesy flag, alone, goes on the starboard. We used ty-raps to attach a small carabiner ...

Re: Prop Zincs

Best source I have found for zincs is Boatzincs.com. Considerably cheaper than West Marine. If you can combine your order with someone else's to get the total up over $100, they give you a break on shipping. In addition to the propnut zinc, Gadzooks! has zincs on each rudder. These are round plates ...

Re: 4 Bladed Props on 75 HP engine sets

We've been running the 4-bladed props since early in 2010 and have put many hours on them, including a trip to Alaska. Our conclusion is that they are considerably quieter. Performance is about the same. We have the 75 hp engines and they will rev to 3600-3700 WOT. I believe you can proceed without ...
