Back Ache Remedy and The Joys of Getting Older

I recently found myself in significant back pain, courtesy of some repairs to Easy Riders combined with my own recklessness. Fortunately, Dick Tuschick loaned me his book "7 Steps to a Pain Free Life". The book has a bunch of information, including some simple exercises that help ease pain and speed...

Re: Marine Head questions for PDQ 34

Easy Riders (Hull #29) has what may be the original Jabsco head, but I can't see any nameplate info. Saltwater flush. A prior owner converted the manual pump to the Jabsco 29200-0120 electric toilet conversion pump in the photo. This is a little graphic, so don't read further if you're eating ... Wh...

Re: Interior Carpets.

Credit for this goes to Brian on Clementine, who saw this thread, and went with Corinthian Aquamat with the teak floor look, for interior flooring. Brian gave me the details on what he did. Easy Riders has fiberglass flooring in the lower salon. It was hard to keep clean - little bits of dirt would ...

Adding Deck Hatches Above Shower & Galley

Here's some info on parts for adding deck hatches above the shower and galley (for those of us who don't have them). I'm using Bowmar N-1000-10A hatches with a 10-3/4 x 10-3/4 cutout. Found them at West Marine (online). The trim ring part number is NT-2000-OFF-W for the 1-inch trim ring, off white. ...

Using Lexan for Inspection Hatches / Areas / Floorboards

On Hull #29, in the cabinet under the refrigerator, there is a wood floorboard that you lift to access the bilge below, which has the sea cocks for the raw water intake for the salon air conditioner and genset. I was not being diligent in inspecting this area, since I had to first haul all the galle...

Re: Cabinet Storage?

On adding a cabinet to the dead space to the port side of the Liquor Cabinet: The Legendary Hull #29 has stepped forward once again to be the guinea pig, under the precise operational and engineering management of the esteemed and talented James Power. We're doing this in two stages: Stage 1: Cut an...

Re: BougeRV Portable Freezer

I installed the Bouge in January, and it has worked great. I ran a separate 12v circuit up to the flybridge with 12 ga wire. If the voltage indicator on the Bouge is correct, I'm getting a voltage drop of 0.5 to 0.75. So I would recommend using 10 ga wire. I compensated by setting the low voltage cu...

Re: Restriction in Blackwater Line from Head

Hi BJ - Replacing this hose was my first job on Easy Riders. The old hose had adhered itself to the bottom of the shower pan. I softened it up a little with a 350 watt heat gun. My Hull #29 configuration may be different than yours. Give yourself plenty of length on the new hose, so it does not kink...

Re: Single Handing?

For single handing thru the locks on the Okeechobee Waterway - Check the Okeechobee Waterway website and Notice to Mariners several times before your trip to confirm all locks are open. Put on your life jacket before entering the lock. I put out all my fenders port and starboard, being sure to get o...

Replacing Princess Cooktop with Electric Induction Cooktop

Over the summer, I removed my Princess Cooktop and replaced it with an electric induction cooktop. I was motivated by Harold and Trish on Hull #5, who said "it was really easy to do". (Note that Easy Riders is the classic MV 34 model, and some information may not apply to the PDQ Yacht models.) Ther...

Re: Spares

To add to the above - Easy Riders' plumbing system is the Whale 15mm with push fittings. I had an assortment of fittings but did not have spare shut off valves to use in case of a leak. One of the cockpit shower flex hoses ruptured, and I had to shut down the water system. An easy fix would have bee...

Re: Prop Shaft/Seal

The new PPS Pro's have worked great so far - no drips. The weather from St Pete to Stuart was very calm, so I haven't hit rough water with them yet. The instructions said to expect a short break in period with some misting and graphite dust, but I did not get any of that. They worked great from the ...

Re: Prop Shaft/Seal

Hi BJ and John ! Last March, I installed new Tides seals, along with shaft service and engine alignment. The port seal worked ok - just a little water in the bilge at the end of the day. The starboard seal had more leakage. I just got new shafts and PSS Pro's. The PSS Pro's are overkill and were dif...
