Re: steerage problem
Lightning exiting thru rudder shaft, as decent a guess as any, but she "steered funny"
before the strike.. I installed two largish zinc discs close to the gaps on the rudders, they are aging
nicely.

Re: steerage problem
Here is a strange outcome- explanation to my original post on steerage problem. About a month ago, i finally got the funds together to re-store my 32 Altair "ting" after suffering a lightning strike last summer, which wiped out most electronics and contributed to ongoing engine problems on...

Re: steerage problem
Alan, Yes, the torque creates yaw. Consider a keel boat running downwind. If it rolls, the Center of Effort moves well out to the side, creating a torque which cause the boat to yaw in the opposite direction. The worst case is when there's a chute up which is swaying side to side, -> torque -> yaw ...

Re: steerage problem
I have not had any trouble keeping my boat balanced ( #43 - with tall rig ). If the boat wants to turn into the wind it would normally suggest you have the traveller too close to center. I will try fussing with the traveller, but it seems she pulls to wind no matter whether i let out sail or sail c...

steerage problem
i had tried posting a notice before but cannot find it on the forum site.
My question is: My altair 32 steers fairly hard into the wind , particularly when wind increases
It happens on both port and to starb
To the point where i have to motor up and get back on course.
any ideas?

steerage problem
I own a pdq 32 altair, hull number 34 i believe. The boat seems to want to turn up into the wind, particularly when wind begins to build. It happens both to port and starboard, and has become a serious problem. I've considered adding a bowsprit to bring more balance to the sail plan. As any altair 3...
