Re: Prop Shaft/Seal
it's been a longtime, so i don't remember the shaft diameter. do a search it's well documented on forum. we've had pss for about 10 or 12 years, around 2000 miles. they work well. the most important thing though is: 1) shaft alignment 2) straight shaft 3) good cutlass bearing. any wobble will kill t...

Re: hand rail repair
after looking at the picture more closely, you can get at the backing on the portside side stanchion from inside the bow locker. a marine welder will be able to fabricate a new bow curve and butt weld into the existing bow rail. some straightening will probably be required but imho doable.

Re: hand rail repair
years ago we had a side rail collapse. we were in bahamas and i thought it would be a case of "toughing it out" until we returned to the us. a local suggested that we talk to the local welder, which i did. he said if we could loosen the rail enough to get a sleeve in it would make it easie...

Re: Oil Cooler End Cap Connector Rubber Coupling
mike,
i have spares on boat but it's in stuart and we won't be there for another month. let me know if you haven't gotten by then.
just a thought. could could cobble together a short piece of hose to go over cooler end then a piece of pvc, pvc end cap, pvc reducer then straight hose to pump/pipe?

Re: Pulling Bundles part II - Seals and goo
go with what you took out. i'd orient the gasket to line up with the "bridge" on the stern cap, if that's the issue with the 10 degrees.
good luck.
good luck.

Re: Pulling Bundles part II - Seals and goo
hi andrew,
to be honest it was a long time ago. i just remember the tapered o-ring, so i'm guessing they made 2 versions and our boat had the version in the lower diagram. what did you remove when you disassembled?

Re: Pulling Bundles part II - Seals and goo
hi,
i did this a couple of times a ways back. as i recall there was only a tapered o-ring which made the seal. trick was to get the o-ring to stay in place while you line up the correct orientation of the core with the end caps.

Re: Fuel transfer pump
i had been told the same on the length of the pickup. the idea being the genset feed was longer and therefore you could never get to the point of transferring so much the genset would run dry. well years ago it happened to us. i transferred too much and genset wouldn't start. now we're hull 23, so m...

Re: Nova Kool Refrigerator
i think the 85 is tough. as discussed so much here, a lot depends on getting the hot air away from the evaporator/compressor. we just installed a vitrofrigo on our other boat. one day we came down and inside of boat was 94. fridge temp was 44. i installed 4" fan to exhaust compressor compartmen...

hi mac,
i used wd-40 gel lube. nothing specific about it, i just had it on hand.
we had the hatch open again yesterday and it release again by hand, so it does seem to have made an improvement.
