hi all,
fup on james' comment. we have the pro mariner setup on our "other" boat and have experienced the tripping that james described. one way around it is to disable the power to the promariner monitor. the monitor is what trips the breaker.

Re: Dinghy Hoist
mac, over our 15 years of cruising, diane and i have agreed that "if it ain't simple it won't work/get used". the engine end is the issue. even at 8:1 is just ok...and we've bought into it. i've thought about taking one of my old sheet winches and welding a mount to davit. given we're mid-70s we'll ...

Re: Dinghy Hoist
hi mac, below is a pic of our dinghy setup. i apologize for it being upside down but i couldn't figure out what's wrong. it's a west marine 10'4" rib. the davits are st croix. the stern is an 8:1 and the bow is 3:1. i added pad eyes in the bow floor with a bridle. i keep stern lower at the dock to h...

Re: Removing and installing shafts
hi james,
just curious. why does mid-shaft bearing factor into removing or not removing the props?

Re: Removing and installing shafts
i forgot, you need to split & remove the transmission coupling. this could be easy or hard. get some pb blaster and soak it. you may need a "bridge tool" and a big socket to improvise a puller.

Re: Removing and installing shafts
hi,
you don't need to remove the shafts to replace the seals. you just have to remove the prop and slide shaft back enough to remove and replace with new seal. i did this myself about 10 years ago.

Re: PSS Seal Size or Part Number
hi doug, we switched to pss around 12 years ago because i thought that the pss could handle slight mis-alignment better than tides, and they are to a small extent. even with pss we had leaking in rough conditions. the fix finally came with the mid-shaft bearing. since you already have it, i'd be che...

Re: PSS Seal Size or Part Number
hi,
haven't looked at our pss for years. one dimension is shaft size (owner's manual or search forum) and other is the stern-tube dia.
i do know cutlass bearing is BITE.
curious, why switch to pss?

Re: PDQ 34 information
hi,
i'm the wrong one to answer your detail questions. you should probably get on the sailcat 36 forum and post your questions. i'm not sure how many actually visit this forum.
good luck.

Re: PDQ 34 information
hi,
i believe that the early boats were 34'. pdq stretched it to 36' soon after. basically it's the same boat. i'm sure more knowledgable owners will fill you in on details.
