Re: Powered Engine Tilt System
The other thing to watch out for, which may not apply, is that some power tilt engines require a larger bracket, which then drags in the water some, slowing the boat all the time. That was the main reason I never got power tilt.

Re: Powered Engine Tilt System
Interesting. Do you know the maximum speed with one engine and with two engines? I know that they "claim" equivalent to 9.9 hp, but on other electric outboards there has been a lot of advertising exaggeration going around. So please report, we'd all like to know. I recall two engines would...

Re: Balsa cored hatches
I found isolated areas of balsa in my PDQ 32, so not surprised. One transom, but not the other. Several bulkheads. I don't know the hatch, but it is probably best to take it off the boat, remove the entire inner skin (discard), and then replace core as needed. https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kQ5y4JvhP5M/...

Re: Replacement solar panels
The rigid panel mountings can be glued on, using either epoxy or polyurethane sealant (Sika 291 etc). I used epoxy, but Sika would have made removal easier (De-Bond takes polyurethanes off, even 3M 5200). I mounted mine with glue-on studs that allowed leveling and zero twist. A 1.5-inch aluminum ang...

Re: HELP structural problem with my 36
I've seen that before under black paint (which is why it is a bad idea) and more commonly with black gel coat. Basically cosmetic. Grind out a little, fair, and repaint the area (since it is chipping and badly faded anyway). Overheating, and more importantly, because the gel coat was way too thick i...

Re: Refinishing Salon Table
Very nice job.
I strongly recommend you cover the windows, not the table. Might as well protect everything. I never had fading, but I always covered the windows from the outside.

Re: PDQ 32 cockpit ports/windows
The cause seems to be corrosion on the pins causing expansion/cracking. Too bad we didn't all replace the pins 10 years ago, before they got brittle. Probably too late now. If I could not get a replacement hatch I would probably either fabricate the parts from aluminum (paint white) or 3-D print the...

Re: Refinishing Salon Table
For this reason, and to ... * Keep bird bombs off * Reduce AC load and warmer in the winter * Protect the plexi from UV ... we nearly always kept the windows covered from the outside. Also covers on the hatches after this was taken. Makes a huge difference on fading. None. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-...

Try Andy Jr. at Shipyard Island Marina (800-213-3323). Many PDQ owners purchased engines from him.

Re: Hurricane Mooring Aft Cleats
^^ Then mount more cleats and make the backings strong. On the PDQ 32 this arraignment is bar tight on the deck and is not a tripping hazard, but it could be, depending on the angles. I've always seen a few ropes on deck as a boat thing.

Like this. A bolt hanger and carabiner deflect the line across, under the dinghy. Use wire gate carabiners. Also, coat the line where is bears with Yale Maxijacket--that will increase the life ~ 5-10 times, based on a decade of experience. http://sail-delmarva.blogspot.com/2009/06/easy-mooring-with-...

Re: Area Rugs
Carpet is easy to cut and ravel-free if cut with a hot knife. Easy and neat. Just take a length of coat hanger, bend it to a shape you like, hammer it flat in the cutting area, and put it in a 100-150 watt iron. Copper wire will work, but coat hanger lasts longer and heats faster. https://s30384.pcd...

Re: Shift and Throttle cable replacement
Get coupling nuts, so that you can use the old cables to pull the new cables through. If you can't find them, PM. I've got a bag of them, I think.

Re: Bottom of keel photo and question
SJM: You may not have understood James. When he suggested finding out if the keels were flooded, he did NOT mean whether they was water in the bilge, he meant "did water drain out of the keel when hauled" or did you drill a hole to find out. Because they are separate you would NOT find wat...
