Re: Propeller size for the 100 hp engines.
My boat is a 2006 with 100 hp engines. It had 17" x 14" props. WOT rpm was about 3400. According to Mastry Marine, a Yanmar distributer, Yanmar wants the WOT rpm for those engines to be 3800 rpm. I had the props repitched to 17" x 12" and got real close to 3800 rpm at WOT. I now ...

Re: Aft Running/navigation light
Duane is right. Rule 23 of the C.G. Navigation Rules states that a boat under 12 meters can display a 360 degree white light plus the red and green lights. I think the problem stems from the confusion caused by the way that the light switches are labeled. Instead of "Navigation Lights" and...

Re: Bahamas crossing
We have crossed to the Bahamas at least 20 times and in the PDQ 5 times. I agree with the comments about not crossing in a north wind. We don't cross from the states with an east wind. South west less that 10 knots is what we wait for. Never had a bad crossing. We use Marv's Weather Service as our m...

Re: Flybridge seal with upper deck
I caulked the flybridge seam over a year ago from both inside and out. It made a tremendous difference. I was able to get into the area under the console by sliding the seat all the way back and wiggling my 78 year old body through the access doors. Once inside, there is adequate room to get to both...

Re: Transom shower..
Or do what we did and move the water heater to the shelf in the starboard forward locker. Easy electrical wire run from the AC distribution panel and simple water connections using fittings and hose from West Marine. Now we have better weight distribution, easy access to the important stuff in the s...

Re: painting corroded aluminum window frames
I only sprayed the primers and the enamel on the bare metal area. I feathered it into the painted area. The enamel was a perfect match. I can email pictures of the process. Send me a request at bobmacneill@msn.com.

painting corroded aluminum window frames
The forward window frames of our 2006 power cat had corroded in spots. They were getting to look pretty bad. I went on the internet and researched ways that people have successfully cleaned and painted aluminum window frames and came up with the process listed below. I was able to do the frames in a...

Re: Springfield double helm seat
We have a 2006 with the double helm seat on the bridge. We cruise the intracoastal, the Keys, and open waters to and from the Bahamas. Both of us are always on the double seat watching the waters ahead. We take one hour stints at the helm so the person on the right steers or controls the autopilot. ...

Re: Lower Helm seat sliding bracket
We have a 2006 34' power cat. Our lower helm seat seemed to be too low so we wanted to raise it. We realized that we never adjusted the fore and aft position of the seat. One position worked for both sitting and standing positions. So we removed the slider and raised the seat 3". It worked grea...

Re: Air Conditioner Replacement
James expertly replaced both AC units last year with the Dometic products. I think the BTU's were the same as the originals. We live in Florida. The units easily cool the boat. BIG upgrade. Maybe you could get James to do yours. He's good! Bob MacNeill Gusto mv #83 or maybe it's #84. Who cares. :)

Has anyone tried the Hard-to-top? They estimated $2300 for my boat using existing bimini bows. Not bad.

We also installed the Borelmfg.com bands on the exhaust tubes just downstream from the risers with the siren and engine indicator on the bridge panel. We hope this will alert us to the problem that Dick just had in time to shut down the appropriate engine before any damage occurs. Bob MacNeill Gusto...

Re: OVEN ALTERNATIVE
We have the micro/convection oven on our 2006 PDQ34. I rarely use the oven as we anchor out a lot. The microwave is great for quick reheating and fast cooking. I would not remove the microwave. I have one large cast iron deep fry pan with lid. When I put this on my propane burner, add food and cover...

Re: Switches on 120 volt panel
The two switches on our boat also illuminate the backlight for the wording. We didn't realize that because we turn on the overhead lights if we want to use the distribution panel, so we never used these switches. Nice touch by PDQ. The lights aren't illuminated unless we specifically want or need th...

Re: Switches on 120 volt panel
On our 34' 2006 #83, the two switches are labeled panel lights. They seem to only illuminate the meters. We never use them since the meters are very visible at night with the cabin lights on.
