Re: Water in the hulls?
I had this problem with my 36 LRC - both "water-tight" compartments in the stern got water in them. I re-sealed the screw holes for the LPG holders & used 5200 to seal what seemed to be any mating areas in the access areas opening into/out of the stern-most (rudder post) areas. That he...

Re: Older fridge door gasket / sealing / insulation
I believe that my major problem is that the insulation surrounding the box is bad. Maybe water-logged from condensation? If I run the unit colder than 50F, the bulkhead in the port, forward cabin sweats - damaging the bunk sheets, mattress & the bulkhead itself. I've wondered about adding insula...

Re: Short stay chain plates
My port chainplate broke on ther crossing from the BVIs to St Martin. I had 2 fabricated to replace the broken one & the starboard side as well. These are very difficult to check in a regular rigging inspection.

Re: Bringing our dog to the Bahamas
When I brought my dog (on our PDQ 36) to the Bahamas 2 yrs ago (into Bimini), the health certificate was probably a month old and I had no problems. I cleared Immigration & Customs and had all my paperwork (including forms gotten from the Bahamas gov't website if I'm remembering this correctly) ...

Re: Older fridge door gasket / sealing / insulation
I thought I'd try this again. This is a '95 PDQ 36 LRC with the horizontal refrigerator. The L-shaped door on the refrigerator leaks cold air badly. If I replace the gaskets (with what I can find in the eastern Caribbean), they're better for a few days until they get compressed and fail to seal well...

Re: Dinghy length
I have a 10' Porta-Bote that is really too long. I definitely cannot hoist it with the outboard attached. I'm looking at a 9'6" RIB and used a friend's for testing the fit - it was tight but it did fit.

Re: Structural or not?
I could conceivably do the entire install from the front but with the larger (Clark Pump) unit it would be extremely difficult to get everything mounted correctly. It looks like I can use 1'x2" strips around the opening to provide support for the wood piece I'm cutting out so you can still sit ...

Re: Structural or not?
My boat does have a starboard door that opens into the boat. What I'd like to do is also create an opening on the top of that space (under the seat cushion) in order to more easily install a new watermaker. That space has what almost appears to be a fiberglass enclosure so that under the wood portio...

Structural or not?
I have a 1995 LRC (#47) and want to install a new / larger watermaker. The boat came with a PUR-35 that sat under the seat across from the nav station. The problem I have is trying to access that space for the new installation (a Spectra V200 / 10 gph unit). I had thought to cut an access panel unde...

Older fridge door gasket / sealing / insulation
My 36 LRC is a 1995 vintage with the refrigerator that had the lift-up door ('L' shaped). It seems that no matter what I try I can't get a good seal - especially along the back edge where the hinges are located. Also, while I added insulation on the top (under the small locker above the fridge) and ...

Anchor rode - chain vs. line
I am living aboard my 36 LRC (eastern Caribbean right now) and after an anchor rode failure due to line chaff I'm re-thinking my current setup. I've got 50' of 5/16" chain & 300' of braided line on my primary anchor. Now I'm wondering whether I should have more chain (maybe 100'). As my wat...

Yanmar engine / parts for sale
I have a partially rebuilt Yanmar 2GM20FC I'd like to sell. In addition, I have an extra case & camshaft. I needed a replacement crankshaft, so bought the extra block & cam to get the crankshaft. The original engine was torn down by a mechanic, everything checked out to be in spec & he s...

Re: 2012 Owners rendezvous
Hey Mike, Looked at your blog - VERY impressive! What y'all have been / are doing is just what Margi & I have planned. We want to be in Granada or Trinidad for hurricane season as well. We're getting a later start than I'd prefer tho, so I'm guessing we may need to skip a few islands on our firs...

Re: 2012 Owners rendezvous
I did not get the e-mail, but would be very interested in attending as well. Our boat (Inspiration, formerly Spirit of Piedmont - #47) is on a mooring in West Palm Beach. And while we are feverishly working towards a mid-Feb departure date (planning on arriving in Trinidad for hurricane season), thi...
