Replacment Trampoline & Sails from original
Hi All Triton Sails built the original sails and trampolines for the PDQ's. I recently took my trampoline in for a little service and Ron the owner, a very laid back fellow, was very helpful. I was asking him about replacements and he gave me a quote so I thought I would pass the info on. Considerin...

Re: Engine stalls when cover replaced on T9.9exrw 1998
For the mechanical owners out there. I went ahead and pulled the power head off my T9.9 to see if I could find the source of my troubles as described above. The following are a series of photos. Photo 1 is of what Yamaha calls the Guide Exhaust Plate. This is what you see if you remove the Power hea...

Engine stalls when cover replaced on T9.9exrw 1998
Problem; Engine rpm reduces slowly to a stall when the engine cover is installed. When I put the engine cover back on and seal it locked the engine rpm reduces from a 1000 rpm idle to about 400 rpm, sometimes staling. This is an immediate reaction of less than 30 seconds. What I have tried so far. T...

Alternative make of outboard for Altair 32
Has anyone used any other make or model of outboard other than Yamaha T9.9?
If so, please post details. Also any information regarding horse power increasing modifications.
I need to replace a motor and would like to consider alternatives.

Re: 9.9 Lower unit rebuild
A question to forum readers who may be versed in the details of marine engine repair. In photo below, of top of oil seal housing. The water channel in this housing has some damage. It is rather deep but the basic shape of the circular chamber is intact. Question If I can replace the two seals with o...

Re: 9.9 Lower unit rebuild
To Remove the nut. I tried unsuccessfully to find a tool that Yamaha calls a “drive shaft holder”. Yamaha part number YB-6228 . The dealer that I spoke to could not find one of these for me. He suggested I us a vice. I used one with no teeth and wrapped the shaft with a rubber bike tub to stop it fr...

Re: 9.9 Lower unit rebuild
At this stage I will set this aside and concentrate on removing the drive shaft so I can remove the oil seal housing that is under the water pump.
Here are a few preliminary photos.

Re: 9.9 Lower unit rebuild
Note the Reverse gear may fall out of the bearing housing if you lift it alone. There is a very thin shim that goes on the reverse gear. It could be lost or damaged or the gear damaged if it falls out of the housing. My reveres gear was loose. Luckily it only fell into the in side of the casting bac...

Re: 9.9 Lower unit rebuild
The amount of ft lb necessary to extract this part was significant. The Bearing Housing will slide out of the cavity leaving the drive shaft stationary. I heated the outside of the lower end casting with a propane torch in an exempt to make it expand. I then turned on the puller a little. Then tappe...

Re: 9.9 Lower unit rebuild
Ok so I am finally getting back to this repair. Regarding the propeller shaft oil seal (in the Bering housing at the propeller end). I have looked at two manuals, a Yamaha manual and a Seloc manual. Both indicate the use of a puller to extract the Bering Housing out of the lower end housing. For thi...
