Re: New Owners - Finally!

Wow, John. that is quite a story. It sounds like it could have easily been the end of everything for you, but here you both have a second chance. Enjoy it. Congratulations on getting Bermuda Shorts. We had seriously considered her in our search this past fall, but once she was on the hard and winter...

Re: Open House & Owners Rendezvous

My admiral and I agree it was a terrific day, especially for us as very new owners. Thanks so much to Dick, Carol, Beth, and Ross for organizing a wonderful event. As a quick recap for those who missed it, we had an informative session on the ICW by Mark Doyle who published the On The Water Chart Gu...

Re: replacing screen in Bomar hatches

Job is done with the rivets as John suggested. It worked, but I can't see why Bomar elected to design the screen frame that way. Thanks again for the good tip!

Re: replacing screen in Bomar hatches

Thanks, John. I was contemplating drilling out the dimples that hold the thin aluminum framing to the butt splice, but wasn't sure of a good way to resecure it. The pop rivet idea sounds like a winner.

This is a great forum to get help from other owners; much appreciated.

replacing screen in Bomar hatches

We have the large Bomar hatches in our MV 34 and the screen material needs replacing. I have re-screened often before, but was amazed to find that the construction of these screen frames doesn't let you install the spline all the way around the perimeter. It wold seem that the screen material is ins...

Re: Prospective buyer of MV 34

Great news! The survey and sea trails identified only a few minor issues that will be addressed before we take possession. We'll bring the boat back from Stuart, FL in early Jan and then drive over to the Rendezvous at Rhumbline Yachts. The buying experience with them has been fantastic so far.

Re: Prospective buyer of MV 34

Well, the sale of our current sailboat fell through even before the survey, but the good news is we have bought a PDQ MV34. She is hull 91, a 2006 model, and we go to survey next week. Looking forward to being part of the PDQ family.

Re: Prospective buyer of MV 34

I am not superstitious, so I will report that we are now under contract with our sailboat for sale. We have an appointment to look at some MV34s in a week or so. Our local friends let us comb through their boat this weekend in more detail than ever before and I remain impressed. Happy Thanksgiving t...

Re: How well do the MV 34s hold their value?

Well, I don't know how well received this info will be, but using all the current asking prices from 2003 to 2006, the graph of the average asking price versus number of years old (2014 minus model year) shows a fairly linear relationship, as John predicted. This points to about $20K decline in aski...

Re: How well do the MV 34s hold their value?

Thanks, John. I had the notion that the noticeable improvements in the model since 2003 and 2004 would factor in more heavily, but your approach sounds like a good one, so I will do that.

How well do the MV 34s hold their value?

I don't let my tendency to over-analyze things get in the way of having fun, but I still like to analyze. :) I have no idea what 2005 or 2006 boats were selling for brand new, but I know what current sellers would like to get for those boats that have generally been very well kept. With the current ...

Re: Prospective buyer of MV 34

Well, our sailboat is still on the market and we decided there is no reason to wait for that sale to occur before buying our MV34 and starting our next big cruise. We plan to leave FL in Apr and go up the east coast to the Erie/Oswego canal, then up the Rideau Waterway to Ottawa, then down to the St...

MV 34 bridge clearance with mast up (and down)

Hi, again. Without lowering the RADAR mast, what is the bridge clearance on an MV 34? How about when you lower it, but leave a Bimini up? Yes, I realize that Biminis could be of varying heights, but I am just looking for a close estimate. We are looking forward to not having a 52 foot stick to worry...

Re: Litter box on the MV34?

Wow, I never expected such a clever suggestion. I will have to investigate that option the next time we get aboard one of the MV 34s.

Thanks very much!
