Re: Great Loop

Diva Di completed both the Great Loop and first, the Down East Circle. We'll be at the Rendezvous, as well.

See you there.

Re: painting corroded aluminum window frames

Great detail, Bob. I have one of those Fein sanders and it is a great machine.

Did you spray the primers on the entire frame or just the bare metal sections?

Thanks,

Flybridge seal with upper deck

After completing over 16K nm in 4 years, we are taking time off from cruising to go over the boat for some really thorough cleaning. While the enclosure on the flybridge is quite spacious, I do not fit in there. With the dual helm seat in place it is very difficult to even look inside. There are som...

Re: Replacing house batteries

Mac, rather than mix up the topic content, I posted the details of my solar panel installation in another topic with a "solar panels?" subject.

Re: solar panels?

Diva Di hard solar panels 1 - Copy.jpg I am going to post the details of our solar panel installation as requested by Mac Carter. At first, I was intrigued by the setup used by another Powercat owner to mount semi-flexible panels (very inexpensive) to lightweight polycarbonate stiffening board and ...

Re: MV34 or 41 in Beaufort, NC

You missed at least 4 of us returning from a cruise to Maine several weeks ago. I am sure some or all of us would have been happy to accommodate you. We have a 34 and love it.

Re: Replacing house batteries

In Sep 2016, Mac Carter wrote that he was replacing the house batteries with AGMs with a goal of being able to go three days at anchor before having to recharge. Having cruised approximately 500 days/nights on our PDQ in less than 4 years, I find that our 4 Trojan T-145 flooded wet cell batteries ge...

Re: Springfield double helm seat

Maybe it is just my 240 pounds, but my new double seat from 2015 has a large separation along the after seam. I have no idea how it could be repaired, but we have been on a 7 month cruise and won't worry about it until we get home in Nov.

Re: Plumbing tubing

I have never had to look at the plumbing back there, but keep in mind that our boats are usually set up for flushing the toilet with fresh water (there is a raw water option/seacock on ours, as well). It might be that they wanted to ensure that no particulate could foul up the solenoid valve that le...

Re: ICW Northbound-newbie

I agree that the NJ ICW is not recommended. Even with our boats' shallow draft, it was challenging when we did it a few years ago, and it is very slow.

Good luck with your trip.

Re: upper helm gps monitor shutting down

Our upper helm chartplotter display has done the same thing once or twice. It is not a good feeling, especially when you really need it right then. Our E120 Raymarine units already have a known problem where the driver circuit for the backlight display goes bad (getting dimmer and dimmer and then un...

Re: OVEN ALTERNATIVE

We use the LG convection/microwave in convection mode once in a while, usually to make pizza or cobbler or something quick. I would not want to roast a turkey in there. With our use, the heat has not been a problem. Don't leave the plastic splash cover in the oven while it preheats. It makes a littl...

Re: DISENGAGE TRANSMISSION AND CAN'T SHIFT STARBOARD SHIFTER AT THE LOWER HELM

Jim,

You should be able to take the cover off the shifter, and you can see a lot from the bottom by opening the electrical panel door wide open. I have never had need to inspect mine, but that is the first thing I would do. See if you can find something obviously wrong and go from there.

Good luck!

Re: DISENGAGE TRANSMISSION AND CAN'T SHIFT STARBOARD SHIFTER AT THE LOWER HELM

Jim,

Our 2006 model does not have any knobs on the sides of the shifter. Perhaps if you tell us what year and hull number you have, someone can help you.
