Re: Dry Storage

Last time I hauled the boat was blocked under the keels and with a couple boards (8x4?) placed under the bridge deck per the manual held in place with jack stands (2 each). I didn't take a pic though. I don't read the manual as saying you should block the boat solely by the bridge deck, but by both ...

Re: Dry Storage

Not quite sure what you are asking here. The PDQ 32 owner's manual says the boat should be supported on the keels and underneath the forward and aft sections of the bridge deck. The manual shows using saw horses to support the sections supporting the bridge deck, but I don't know why you couldn't us...

Re: Current accurate weather

When I sailed thru the Caribbean and Bahamas about 15 years ago, I had a shortwave/SSB receiver (a Sony 7600 which I bought for a little less than $200, as I recall), with which I was able to receive wx information (voice, as well as weatherfax which you download to a laptop with software you can fi...

Re: source for bow pulpits?

I can't help you for who made PDQ pulpits, but when my Hunter 35 was trashed in a hurricane in 2006, a firm called Tops-in-Quality did a good job fabricating replacement pushpits and stanchions. I think they go by Whitewater marine marine now. http://www.whitewatermarineinc.com/pulpits.html. If you ...

Re: Replacing original solar panels

I have read that panels should not be mounted flat onto a surface, so they can dissipate heat for better efficiency. It wouldn't be an issue with rigid panels (i.e. those that come with an aluminum frame with edges to keep the panel off the surface). But I have no idea what efficiency affect, if any...

Re: Replacing original solar panels

Hey Joe, I've been researching this as well, as part of a scheme to do a solar upgrade this fall which will include adding a couple 150 watt panels over the hardtop and a couple 100s mounted over the stern. My preference would be to mount the new panels in the existing starboard mounting frames so I...

Re: What are these D-rings on the bow?

The bow mounted rings are secure attachment points to use for towing or securing lines from storm prep, I believe. I recently read (I think it was Practical Sailor) that boats that used these type of bow mounted attachment points for lines in a storm/hurricane fared well in part because there is lit...

Re: Fridge Trouble

Question: Once you let the compressor cool down, and you turn it back on, does the compressor run for a period and then shut down? Or is it just not starting at all? Either way, it probably is the fan. If you have fans for cooling the compressor coils and the area where the fridge compressor is loca...

Re: Autohelm ST4000+ Problem

Hi Dennis, I had a similar problem with my autopilot before. There are a bunch of parameters that can affect this, including the deviation setting and latitude position, which if I recall ended up being my problem. Next time I get to the boat (might be a few days) I'll note all the autopilot setting...

I gotta say, based on that picture alone, the cabin on the 32 looks a whole lot more comfy than the F-27.

Re: OVEN ALTERNATIVE

I've been looking into this issue as well, as our 32 Altair does not have an oven.

We do have a BBQ grill however, and there are a number of websites that say BBQ grills can work fine as ovens with the right technique, though I personally have not tried it yet.

Re: Watermaker for a 32?

Maybe you could mount the clark pump under the settee and mount the filters/pressure pump under the sink in the galley. You'd have to take out the trash receptacle and use something else, but it would be accessible, located lower in the boat, and close to the salt water intake.
