Re: mainsail

Drew, what did you do to upgrade the outhaul? I don't like my setup, where the line comes through a hole in the boom and ties off on a cleat on the boom. Since I do not have a winch on the mast, I cannot tension it more than I can pull with my hands, and it is awkward to get to in any event. I'm thi...

Re: Salon hatch inner trim piece.

Thanks for posting that Tom, that is useful information. My trim rings are showing cracks and signs of age and I may be replacing them soon.

Re: mainsail

Please let us know your experience. I've used a local loft for my sails, but I've read generally good things about Rolly sails over the years.

Re: PDQ 32, length of tramp lacing and diameter

About a year ago, I bought new tramps (through Sunrise -- happy) for my 32, and debated what to lace them up with. After looking around a bit, it seems like most tie their tramps up with a non-stretch line (like sta-set). However, I wanted something with some stretch to it, because, in my observatio...

Re: PDQ 32/34, Shoal Survivor, For Sale

Wow, after years of reading you rave about your 32, I'm completely taken aback. I'm curious about your different direction, and why you felt your 32 wasn't the boat for that direction. But best wishes for your sale and future decisions. I for one am very much appreciative of all your posts, comments...

Re: Salon hatch inner trim piece.

I assume you've checked with Bomar?

If there is no source for these, the best alternative might be to make a frame out of teak.

Re: Blocking for PDQ 32 LRC

Follow the manual. The hull above the waterline is a cored sandwich, and if you put jackstands on the hulls above the waterline, you can get deformations in the hull. On a mono, the stands are usually placed below the waterline where the hull is solid. When I was looking at PDQs, one of them I looke...

Re: PDQ32+

Looks nice. I'm thinking of having it done on my new 32 LRC. I'm thinking that with the extra weight in the LRC this would be even more of a benefit. Amytom, was yours a DIY or did you have it done? I have zero experience with fiberglass and will need to find someone in Florida to do it. Any recomm...

Re: Replacing Fixed Windows

Hi Drew, Although I'm not replacing the portlights now, I am interested in using Dow 795 to adhere the existing portlights. This article by Don Casey in Sail Magazine describes a method using Dow 795 and VHB tape: http://www.sailmagazine.com/diy/maintenance/replacing-fixed-portlights/ I have not ye...

Re: Replacing Fixed Windows

Following up on my other post here: http://www.pdqforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2968&p=11897&hilit=port+sealant#p11897 The idea of the spacers is to prevent the goop (a/k/a Dow Corning 795, and nothing else!) from squeezing out too much when you mount the acrylic window to the fiberglas...

Re: Headroom on 32?

I'm almost 6'4 and have no problems with headroom in the hulls in our 32. We leave the hatch open except when it is raining. With the hatch closed you have to duck, but it's only for a moment as you are either sitting in the salon or going into the hulls. The most important areas are the galley and ...
