Re: Water in engines

Jim, that is an amazing story. Thanks very much for sharing it. We will definitely be more thoughtful about docking fender placement.

Re: Rear side slide windows' pull/latch replacement

Here ya go... Replacing Salon Sliding Window Latch Procedure 1. Remove 4’ black plastic groove track at top (center) of both window frames… gently. 2. Re: A Second Depth Sounder

Russ, thanks for that suggestion... I'll play with the MFD settings and try to find something like you reported.

Re: A Second Depth Sounder

Thanks for that, Alan! Good to hear about the new Raymarine gear. We've heard similar positive feedback from several boat owners in our charter fleet about the new Raymarine gear... especially when compared to Garmin and B&G. Doing a full replacement is probably our next big investment in the boat. ...

DSM-30 Dropout Issue

I'm sending this message to a 2007 series of posts regarding DSM-300 shallow depth limitation issues. I'm hoping that there are some PDQ owners who have encountered and resolved a different DSM problem like we are experiencing. Our DSM-30 Depth Sounder unit intermittently drops out... meaning the de...

Re: Water in engines

I don't relate to the "symptom" of your raw water strainer filled to the top. Mine is always filled to the top and I don't ever have salt water in my engine. I just don't understand this report yet.

Re: Water in engines

Jim, I’m unclear about what happened. Did your engine compartment “fill” with salt water? Like to the point where it spilled over into the berth area? Or did salt water fill your your engine? (Meaning salt water got inside the engine?)

Re: Diesel Electric Hybrid power

Very interesting topic, indeed. It's too bad that the original PDQ company did not make through the 2008 recession. I imagine they would be moving down that path. As a by the way, my 2006 PDQ does not have a generator and, as far as I can tell does not need one. Instead, we have a Webasto diesel hyd...

Re: Prop Zincs

One of my prop zincs needs to be replaced. The diver who checks our boat after each charter told me the Port zinc is loose. We replace both prop zincs every year in Feb when we haul the boat. However, our shipyard records indicate they used a "C" is the size zinc, not "D" as several people on this f...

Re: novacool fridge

Tim, as I mentioned in an earlier message, my boat does not have a genset and my port bow locker does not have a vent. That is why I have the exhaust fan venting into the locker where the auxilary fuel tank is.

Re: novacool fridge

My wire run was different and actually a lot easier than I anticipated. Also, I did NOT replace the existing 14 AWG wire. Instead I ran a new 10 AWG wire along the same path as the 14 AWG wire. I was then able to use BOTH wires for powering the fridge and exhaust fan. Using both wires reduces line l...

Re: novacool fridge

The locker you refer to is not vented on my boat (I have a Webasto hydronic heater, not a genset). Therefore, the only option for venting on my boat is thru the next locker where the AUX fuel tank is (which vents air into the chain locker).

Re: Propeller size for the 100 hp engines.

Duane, Could you comment a bit more about how you handle the task of cleaning out the turbos on the 100 HP Yanmars? I've never done that and the diesel guys here implied it is not so simple to take it apart. And, I don't see a section in the 4JH3-HTE service manual I have about maintaining the turbos.
