Re: Sticky white vinyl ceilings
Dick, Thanks for a very useful post. So far, our ceiling is fine. In the past I tried rubbing alcohol, but purely out of ignorance. I did not know what to use, but I knew that rubbing alcohol is a pretty mild solvent and evaporates completely leaving no residue. Since the first time I used it, I alw...

Re: Nova Kool Refrigerator
Duetto,
That is an interesting post. I have always wondered about the drip tray. Now that you have described your results, I think the drip tray really is just for defrosting. Even then, we take everything out of the fridge. I am going to try your approach.

Re: Bottom Paint
I live in central Florida. We used three gallons to do two coats. I agree it is a bit of a stretch. Four gallons would be better. If you do it yourself and it is the first time, be careful where you buy paint. We bought two gallons at the local West Marine. No telling how long it had sat there on th...

Re: Nova Kool Refrigerator
Teamwork,
The one thing I did not do was add insulation. Is the styrofoam in just the back (towards the bow) or is there room on the sides as well? I know there is plenty of room in the back just can't remember how much clearance there is on the sides.

Re: Nova Kool Refrigerator
I have a Nova Kool on my 2005. I ran 8 gage wire all the way from the breaker to the fridge. It may have helped a little, or not. It sure did not hurt. I put a fan on the shelf the fridge sits on. There is about 6" of space behind the fridge. My fan blows up bringing cooler air from under the f...

Re: Rocna Anchot
I have a Rocna 20 KG on 100 feet of 5/16 high test chain backed up with 75 feet of rode. I love the Rocna. The Rocna sticks so well that I used to stall out the Genius windlass all the time. It finally died. I thought it was the relay, but it turned out to be the motor itself. It occurred to me that...

We use Triton which is an independent agent for Geico. Our bill this year is $1688. Just received it.

Re: Nova Kool Refrigerator
Lyons Pride, If you go with a newer smaller fridge, you may be able to save some power. The newer ones have more efficient refrigeration and better insulation. I would look closely at how much stuff I put in the fridge now. Our 7 cubic foot fridge is never full. I like to have that big freezer so we...

Re: Anchor Bridle
One final note on all of this. I agree that each leg of the bridle should be about equal to the beam of the boat. It gives an almost perfect angle. In the past, when the wind totally died at night, my chain hook would come off the chain. Extra chain between the bow roller and the hook usually fixes ...

Re: Anchor Bridle
I have anchored out in the PDQ 34 for literally months at a time. My approach is to tie the snubber line to one bow, take it across to the other bow and put the chain hook there, then just make sure both sides are the same length. I do this for convenience, not for any particular structural reason. ...

Re: Nova Kool Refrigerator
It is true that in the Bahamas getting something that big shipped in is almost impossible. So getting a new one in the US is a good idea. Another approach is to carry a 12V DC cooler like and Engle or ARB. Plenty of room under that big table. Easy to run wiring from the galley. Are the Bahamas back ...

You can always call Atlantic Towers and spend $10K on a hard top. A lot of money, but it is really nice.

Re: Engine Panels
Mac, I have the 75 HP engines. I don't know really what the physical differences are in the three engine sizes. I assume that your engines have different valve timing, turbo boost, and maybe an intercooler. The intercooler, if you have one, might make the starter harder to get to depending on where ...

Re: Engine Panels
Duetto, John, I think. The upper helm might be a bit of a variable. It will need the alarm switches that are now on the engines. I think the current arrangement is for one alarm switch, either oil pressure or temperature, to serve two helms. The alarm switches are just switches after all, either on ...
