Re: Traveling with firearms of any kind

On our way from NC to Chesapeake Bay, last September, we were boarded by the Coast Guard. Their first question was "do you have any firearms aboard." After my "yes" answer I was asked to direct them to the location of my FNH 5.7 but not to handle it. They secure all weapons, then...

Re: Replacement ports

James,
We need the forward left salon window, the only one that is curved on that side. Appreciate your reply.

Replacement ports

Portside forward glass of the main cabin was leaking, had it rebedded and ended up with a cracked window. Replacement fabricated in Va also cracked after installation. Who fabricated the originals? Has anyone dealt with this problem? Suggestions please.

Re: Cheap PDQ 36

Anagyri was our introduction, via charter on the Chesapeake, to the PDQ 36. This was in Spring of 2002. I believe Les stopped the charter business shortly thereafter, but don't know the fate of Anagyri after that. Hope she finds a good owner.

Re: Southern US Haul-outs (excluding FL)

Roger,
Is NC too far north? You can be hauled and stored in Edenton. Scotty Harrell has the yard, email is harrell.scotty@gmail.com.

plastic screw caps

After 10 years, Half Moon is missing some of the white plastic trim caps for interior screws. Will also need the plastic washers which the caps snap over. Where can they be found?

Re: Speed on reach in good breeze

If at all possible, spend time on both boats. We had planned to buy a new Gemini until we chartered one for a week. We then chartered a PDQ 36. The difference in quality will be apparent. A major design difference is the visibility at the helm. On the Gemini you look forward through the cabin, on th...

Re: steerage problem

All sailboats are supposed to have weather helm. On some points of sail it is possible to adjust main and jib to achieve a neutral helm. This condition typically is short lived. If the wind increases the boat will head to weather. If the wind decreases the boat will fall off. In a strong gust both c...

Re: steerage problem

This is getting interesting. The three hull motions are roll, pitch and yaw. The torque force I'm referring to is not the force to create roll, but to produce yaw, turning the boat into the wind. Weather helm is considered a positive attribute as it depowers the sail by turning the boat into the win...

Re: steerage problem

Much is made of adjusting center of effort, but an alternative theory is the torque moment about the mast and forestay which "twists" the boat into the wind. I used to sail an Islander 30 (fin keel) and found that it would round up to windward under headsail alone. The center of effort was...
