Re: Anyone bolt their 9.9s to the motor mounts?

Yes. My 32 has 2.5 inch SS lag bolts through the rear bracket (2 each) going into the transom. But I have to remove these before pulling a motor for service or whatever. I have to get in the water to do this because access in not possible via the well (which is a problem in the winter). If I leave l...

Re: Rear cockpit enclosure for PDQ 32?

Here are some pics of our enclosure. We enjoy the enclosure in the cooler months. One thing we would consider changing would be to roll up entire sections at the rear instead of using 'u-zip roll ups'. This would open the back better for using the bench seats. We went with all vinyl edging. The butt...

Re: Fix for stuck tilt lock mechanism

Followup: I tried cutting the old broken tilt lever with a utility knife and it was very tough going. The Dremmel cuts it like butter but you will probably break a few wheels.

Re: Fix for stuck tilt lock mechanism

My motors are 2007 vintage. I did not take photos but can provide a sketch up. tiltTube.pdf I used a dremel tool with a cutoff wheel but a sharp utility knife might work better. I worked back and forth to cut through to the metal of the tilt tube. Once broken free, the lever worked like new with jus...

Fix for stuck tilt lock mechanism

The notorious tilt lock issues on the 9.9 yamaha continued to bother me and I finally fashioned a long attachment to 'mule' the lock lever into position. This worked for a year until the short plastic (delrin?) lever snapped on the port engine. I pulled the engine and of course the tilt tube was fus...

Re: Replacement rub rail

That makes a lot of sense. Everything is a compromise. I found a kit from Taco that is the right dimensions and uses what they call a "flex chrome" insert. http://tacomarine.com/product/V11-9811/1-5-8-x-3-4-Semi-Rigid-Vinyl-Rub-Rail-Kit-with-Flex-Chrome-Insert The rail base looks like it w...

Replacement rub rail

Hi all, Has anyone replaced the rub rail on a 32? If so, could you share your experience? Should the new rail be flexible or rigid or semi-rigid? TomKat has an aluminum rub rail with black vinyl insert that looks very shabby. I notice in photos on Thinwater's blog that the rail is black rubber or vi...

Re: No cooling water at telltale and running hot.

Fixed.

Water pump housing was worn allowing SS insert to rotate out of position and leaking from drive shaft exit.

Replaced housing and all is good now.

Thanks to all the commenters.

Re: No cooling water at telltale and running hot.

Hi all, Thanks for the good suggestions. Regarding the spinning hub: This is such a good suggestion but yes, I checked the impeller for hub spinning as that happened to me in past (like in 1975 on an Evinrude). Yesterday, I put a new water pump kit in anyway since the old one was three years in serv...

Re: No cooling water at telltale and running hot.

Hi, I rarely get to flush and I am the second owner so I don't know the history. I pulled the thermostat and it looks normal to me. I did find a yamaha shop on the harbor who will assess tomorrow. Most troubling to me is the exhaust pulse via the telltale and the sudden nature of onset (working one ...

No cooling water at telltale and running hot.

Hi all, Suddenly no water at telltale and head is very hot to touch compared to working engine. Hose and telltale port are clear. I feel exhaust puffs from telltale port but not a drop. Water pump is intact but I put in a new kit anyway (it was 3 years old). Still no joy. I am off the dock and don't...
