Re: genius windlass

I’m glad there’s an assignable cause. Now hopefully it can just be cleaned up real well and give a few more years of service.

Re: genius windlass

I think you’ve already figured it out. The wired remote appears to have shorted out. Try taking it apart and cleaning it.
If it turns out not to be the remote the next thing I would look at is the relay pack.

Re: Remove hot water heater

The picture shows a clean molded edge around the cabinet. The PDQs I’ve been on usually has a flat fiberglass surface with a cabinet frame attached either via screws or glue. Can you attach another picture showing the outside of the cabinet and how the door is attached?

Re: Electric Choke Switch Options

I think a few of the later model 9.9’s had an electric choke solenoid on or off not the thermoelectric of the early models.
Yamaha had some ignition switches that if you pressed the key in further than just inserting it would cycle the choke on. Maybe you can find one of those?

Re: Parts available for vintage 9.9’s.

Wow! No takers?
A full running engine minus lower unit and box of parts including carbs, starter, fuel pump kit, carb kit, props, regulator, ecm module, coils, etc...

All free to any of the PDQ family that can pick them up in Kissimmee.

Parts available for vintage 9.9’s.

Anyone needing parts for vintage Yamaha 9.9’s? I have a complete engine running well minus the lower unit. Also have a box of spares.
Just bought a replacement from Andy at Shipyard Island.

Older lower unit

I have one of the original T9.9's 1998 vintage. On my last trip I thought it had died but when I tore into it today I discovered it was just the lower unit main shaft seal had failed and the gears had run on seawater lubrication for too long. Looking at the engine itself the oil screen did have meta...

Re: Rear cockpit enclosure for PDQ 32?

As Drew mentioned above the rain doesn't blow in while at anchor and it is a bit of a pain to put up and take down. I over did it though, three layers screen, clear vinyl, and sunbrella supreme cover. Too heavy and bulky to just leave in place rolled up. If I lived on board at this point I would pro...

Re: PDQ 36 Rudders

Same thing on the 32’s. I not only created the access ports but put bilge pumps in the areas wired to a manual switch.

After adding a few layers of glass to the stbd post seems most of the flooding in that area is from rainwater entering the lazarette.

Read the manual about the gain control and response profile.
That may be your issue.

Re: PDQ32+

Post trip update- Had our first extended trip on the boat since the upgrades. Wow! what a difference. Sailed from Melbourne to Key Largo and back with some diving and playing in the keys while down there. Solar - adding the new panels on the arch made it so in a week of sailing with 6 people on boar...

Re: Rear cockpit enclosure for PDQ 32?

We made a very nice rear enclosure for our boat and used it one winter. It's been in the attic ever since. Several hundred dollars of cloth and dozens of hours labor wasted.

Re: Key switch replacement

Works great, not quite as refined as the original Yamaha but the price makes up for it.

See my answer to your other post too; hopefully it will help.
