Re: Most distance in 24 hours by PDQ 36
Looking quickly at the log book for a trip from New England to Guatemala and back to Florida... we averaged about 135nm per day on our PDQ36/39. Our average speed reflects a double handed crew, conservative sail plan (mostly regular sail), conservative weather windows that focused on safe comfortabl...

The boat can go fast for sure, easily accelerating from 7 knots to 12+ knots off the wind in surfing conditions. Check out this video of our old PDQ36/39 sailing d...

Re: Hull Extensions
Gel coat and yes, matching can be difficult and having a good fiberglass person is essential to obtain professional results. The hull extension parts provided with a basic white gelcoat finish and would need to be over sprayed with matching gelcoat to suit each boat as gelcoat color may vary due to ...

Re: Hull Extensions
[quote="maxicrom"]... I was concerned at first about making the chain plates captive, but they are probably better off dry than 1/2 in the water. Actually, the chain plates are not captive. The chain plates are removable by simply unbolting them and sliding them up out of the deck where a ...

Re: Hull Extensions
Mike, If you want to talk hull extensions give me a call see www.DKsail.com for current contact info. We sailed Pacifica without extensions for a few thousand miles and felt frustrated with the heavy sterns and huge stern wakes. I then endeavored to build extensions to remedy these issues. Re: Hull Extension
I'm very happy with the performance enhancements of the hull extensions. 3' definitley makes a difference especially under sail as the hulls are more easily driven, thus one goes faster with less wind. Two more PDQ 36 owners have purchased hull extension parts from me so fairly soon we should have m...

Re: Haul out / Storage / Insurance in Florida
[quote="philiprmcgovern"]Roger and Bonnie: Sunshine has spent a fair amount of time along the Georgia coast, but I am not aware of any yard in that state that can haul a PDQ 36. If you learn of one, please let the group know about it. I looked at a St Francis 44' which I believe has a 23.5...

Re: Nearly DONE
Sandy, When are you going to add some buoyancy to your PDQ to hold up all those new copper and tin toys? It seems since this project is done you'll be needing another? The fabricator up in CT can still provide hull extensions if you are interested. It's the cheapest way to satisfy threefootitus. I k...

Re: Lightning Strikes
We got caught out in one heck of a scary squall on Lake Okeechobee here in Florida last week. I was tracking the storm on my radar and at 24 miles in consumed half the screen! Tons of lightning and winds to at least 47 knots at which point I ducked inside. We dropped the anchor when we spotted a wat...
