Re: Xantrex Pathmaker

Hey Bryan, Thought I'd mention that a jumper would work as mentioned or if a start battery is dead by starting the other engine the alternator will charge the weak battery allowing it crank up. In the unlikely scenario both starts are weak running the genny and charging the system thru the inverter/...

Re: Xantrex Pathmaker

Hey Felix, I have tried replacing the Pathmaker solenoids with limited success. I now use 2 Blue Sea 7610 ACR's linked together as mentioned. Done a couple dozen so far with good results. As a heads up the #4 wire lugs will need to be replaced as the 7610's have a larger stud diameter, requiring a c...

Re: Vented cap on Hydraulic Helm resevoir?

The fly bridge steering pump should have a vented cap, lower helm not vented. This allows for expansion of the hydraulic fluid in the system up top while maintaining a seal at the lower station. The cap will have the words "vented" on it.

Re: Issue with the head

Hi John, Try remounting the solenoid from below the sink to up high on the aft side of the fresh water tank bulkhead. This stops water siphoning from the tank, thru the pump and toilet solenoid into the bowl. All can be accessed if you remove the toilet paper module and the medicine cabinet. I have ...

Forward tanks

IMG_20230812_112533477.jpg Hi All, Came across this issue, a steel can was stores on top of the forward fuel tank resulting in surface degradation as well as a 1/2" hole. Keep an eye on storing dock lines on the tanks that will introduce corrosive salt, leaking hatch dogs that keep all moist, ...

Re: Prop/Shaft Nut Thread Size

Hey Brian,
The block of wood goes between a prop blade and the hull bottom. An 8 X 8 timber is usually big enough.

Re: EFCI's

Thanks for the reply s. Yup ABYC changed their recommendations on installing self monitoring isolators to help with the issue. Reason I'm asking is there is a 34 in Manhattan that has disconnected the isolator, fuses and control panel but still trips the pedistal when he switches on the A / B combin...

EFCI's

Hi All,

With marinas replacing their shore power pedestal GFI's with the new ELCI's, was wondering if you have experienced issues with tripping breakers, and if so what your fix was.

Thanks

Re: Shaft Seals

Hey Nick,

The T fitting setup will usually fit a single clamp, with the second just cutting into unsupported hose. Good idea to replace any damaged hose if found and eliminate some extra clamps.

Re: Generator water intake obstruction

Good idea on looking at the seal between the seacocks and tube flange Duetto. Came across this a few times years ago. Might also look at a possible collapsed hose inner liner on the suction side.

Re: Generator water intake obstruction

Replacing the impeller may help but I wouldn't be concerned about the couple of vanes oriented the other way. When diesels shut down they will frequently jump backwards a few degrees. The vanes will correct themselves on the next start up.

Re: Thru Hull Splash Cover

If gluing on clean the surfaces with acetone, sand the contact areas with 320 grit, remove the dust and apply a nice bead of 5200 and install. Smooth the ooze with a wet finger and secure with tape until set. If screwing as well countersink the screw holes in the bridge deck to create an O ring seal...

Re: Hydraulic Steering Rams

Hi Mac,

Check that the upper helm pump has a vented fill cap. This compensates for fluid expansion. The lower helm should have a solid cap without the vent hole.
