Re: Fuel Polisshing?

One additional note....the yanmar engines circulate about five (5) times as much fuel as they burn. thus if you are running at 3000 rpm you are actually circulating about 30 gal per hour thru your Racor filter. Run for 4 hours and you have polished your entire main tank !!!!
Safe cruising !!

Re: Racor Filters

Hi Folks, Just had to add my two cents to this discussion. We have put thousands of hours on various PDQ's all using 2 micron Racor filters with no problems. Needless to say it is MUCH better to have the Racor need replacement than the on-engine filter. The on-engine filter on our 100hp engines is a...

Re: Cutlass Bearing Replacement

Hi Chet, DUETTO's advice is right on. The "whipping" you notice is most likely caused by one (or a combination) of three things: 1. Bad engine alignment, 2. a bent shaft, 3. a worn cutlass bearing. The most likely is an alignment problem. We have encountered this on so many boats and it eventually l...

Re: Tides Marine Seals

Hi Ron, We have dealt with this issue (many times) and have come to some conclusions. First, in many instances the engines/shafts were never aligned properly at the factory. This fact was hidden by the flexible coupling installed between the transmission coupling and the shaft coupling. When there w...

Sharing a French Canal boat

Hi Folks, Here is an interesting one for you.... My wife and I have done several trips to France to cruise the canals there....An outstanding experience. We recently came across a great canal boat for sale and we are trying to put together a partnership (four partners) to own and use the boat. We ha...

Engine alignment

Hi Folks, Since posting the note on the Tides red hose (dripless shaft seal) maintenance issue I have had conversations with several owners and realized that maybe a good thing has turned into a not so good thing! As you know PDW used a "Drive saver" unit between the transmission coupling and the sh...

Re: Dripless shaft seals

Good luck Russ,
The PSS seals were a disaster when PDQ tried to use them. PSS could never solve the problem so they tried the Tide seals and eventually wound up with the "red" which with some obvious exceptions have been outstanding. I hope you fair better!!

Re: grounding rudders & shafts

Hi ! To the best of my knowledge, there is no "bonding" system on the PDQ. Each underwater metal component has it's own zinc so no bonding system is required. In boats like the Mainship they use bronz thru hull fittings that use another zinc somewhere else (thru the bonding wire) for protection. No ...

Dripless shaft seals

Hi folks, It's me again with a small but important tecnical update. Since the PDQ 34 was launched there have been several dripless shaft seals delivered in the boat. The factory started out with a PSS seal that did not work very well (quite wet) and they quickly changed to a unit made by Tides marin...

Re: MV 34 - 4 blade props

Hi Folks, After a month of heavy weather cruising in the Bahams I can report one other benefit from the 4 blade props...significantly less cavitation in rough water. I would guess a 50%+ reduction. Further news on the subject: Now that the "bulk purchase" on the props is over, I will no longer be in...

Re: MV 34 - 4 blade props

Hi Folks,
Now that we are close to receiving the first batch of 4 blade props for the 100 hp engines (75 hp to follow shortly thereafter) Michigan prop has announced that new prices will be in effect for any new orders placed from this date on. As soon as I have the new pricing I will post it.

chlorine tablets in AC strainers

Hi Folks, In performing some maintenance on a PDQ 34 that we just sold, we found an interesting problem that I thought I should pass on. The owner of this boat had been putting chlorine tablets in the ac strainers to keep them growth free. The tablets certainly did that, but the unanticipated side a...

Re: MV 34 - 4 blade props

Hi Jim, Just saw your posting on aqua drives and the sound tiles. I just don't know....we have not tried the 4 blade props on a boat with those options installed so I can't comment. However....logically it would seem that the benefit from the 4 blade props would be at least slightly less, as those o...

Re: MV 34 - 4 blade props

Hi Folks, Last friday we launched HERON with a set of the new DX 4 blade props. WOW....same improvement I saw on Cat's Away when I seatrialed her. Basically same RPM/Speeds. Last summer we put about 2000 miles on her and now with the new props she is like a totally different boat. The improvement is...
