Re: Aft Bimini

Alan, that's good to hear. I also interacted with the forum admin about a this over a year ago. It's still a frustrating issue for me. I tried 4 times to send 3 photos to you. All were about the same (reduced) size (230-380KB). Only 2 got uploaded. The third was rejected every time. I gave up on it....

Re: Aft Bimini

Alan,

I get the same "file too big" errors a lot on this forum when I'm using my Firefox browser. Try a different browser. Safari works better for uploading small picture files. (I'm using Apple gear.)

Re: Aft Bimini

Dennis, We completely replaced our main Bimini with a stronger structure, made it about 4" higher to accommodate taller people and about 12" longer (toward the stern) so it covers the entrance from rain. We felt the original structure was not strong enough in high wind conditions. We added an aft Bi...

Re: Engine Panels

Tim,

What engines do you have? I’m interested in hearing what you had to do to replace the starter on either engine. The vertical space under my Yanmar 100’s is very limited. lim

Re: Fuel Vent Gurgle?

Now that we are listening for the gurgling sound, we hear it periodically during the day and night. If the aft berth window is open at night (mine was wide open all night), the gurgling is much louder. It doesn't matter if it's 55º or 75º... flat water or slightly turbulent water. There's no way to ...

Fuel Vent Gurgle?

When we are out on our boat for a few days, we sometimes hear a short, soft (1-2 sec.) gurgling sound (like bubbles in a pipe). It occurs at odd times, not a regular pattern... it might occur once or twice at night or once during the day. Or not at all. With the starboard berth window open at night,...

Re: Microwave Addition

In case this is helpful to those interested in downsizing your Microwave as Tim did, I did the same thing about a year ago for the similar reasons... The 1200 watt unit we had onboard hammered the batteries and sometimes popped the inverter breaker or the main breaker. And we wanted to make better u...

Re: Black rubber window gasket material

Hi Dick,

Very generous offer. My gaskets are doing well. We do use 303 annually and it works well. But at some point, I will need to do this.
Question... what kind of sealant or glue is used for this? Or does the gasket material have a "sticky" side?

Re: REAR SHELF IN STATEROOM

We had a similar issue when we bought our PDQ in 2016. It had years of extensive water damage (black stains) on both berth shelves, the shelf behind the lower helm seat and the sloped surfaces next to the entry door steps. The damage could not be sanded out. Our first task was to find and fix the le...

Re: Windlass reversing solenoid

Wayne, that is a great diagnostic story. So, now that your old solenoid is working, will you keep the new one or return it? I suppose if you are SUPER confident about the old one, you could save $100 by returning the new one. On the other hand, I know it's a serious temptation to keep the new one as...

Re: Effective Fuel

Rafe, did you really mean to say 94 gallons (out of the 115 gals) remained in your main tank when your port engine quit? 94 equals almost 82% of the fuel was still in your tank. I don't get. Nothing like that happens in our boat.

Re: Dipstick Marks

I too have high side and low side... and do 3 dips each time. The challenge with using the high side is that it looks more like ling "legs" on the sides of the stick, like a glass of wine with empty space in the middle. That seems impossible to read to me, whereas the low side is a distinct line acr...

Re: Dipstick Marks

NIck, interesting question. I don't know what the total amount between the two marks, but I do know our Yanmar dealer recommends keeping the oil level between the half way to FULL mark. I do that and find that it takes roughly about 1.5 to 1.75 quarts from the half way to FULL mark. Hope that helps.
