cat selection
I switched from mono sailing to cat sailing a year ago. When I set out to create a short list of catamarans in the 30 to 36 foot range that had good sailing ability, good accomodations, and were reasonably nice to look at. I had trouble creating a list longer than about 5 choices and of course two o...

I suspect the bases were custom made. You may be able to adapt bases from http://www.BosunSupplies.com

No more 36???
Per the PDQ website it seems the 36 has joined the 32 in being sidelined. I don't know what the PDQ folks have planned but it would be a shame to see them leave this market. I think the market place needs a quality cats in the under 40 foot range and I don't think anyone has offered better products ...

motor fit
I looked at your boat when I was shopping - at the time the Hondas were 1/2 installed and it clearly looked like there was going to be a size problem. I have noted reports of others on this site having installed the 15 hp. Hondas in the PDQ36 so there must be a little more room in their motor wells....

hinges
Check out http://www.sailboatstuff.com . I know they have the ones for my PDQ32 so if they are the same they will be able to help you. They have a good assortment of hinges and their web site provides enough info to see if you find a match.
Congratulations on your new boat!

shipping
I would call UPS and get them to tell you what your costs will be. We use them a lot for cross border stuff and find them to be reasonable. If you ship with a common carrier you may need a broker to clear the goods thru customs. Parcel post is probably the least expensive method to ship but if your ...

hinges
I have not had a problem with my hinges. I think it is best to keep these hatches closed unless you are settled in for the night as they are very vulnerable if open while sailing. Part 2 - I spoke too soon - when I checked my boat today I had a closer look and there are cracks at a couple hinges. Gi...

I don't believe tonnage is a critical issue unless you are registering a commercial vessel. I registered my PDQ32 in Canada using the weight expressed as 4 tons.

brokers in Annapolis
I had a very positive experience with Jerry Oosterhause who was with Chessie Cats at the time but it appears he has now moved to Authentic Yachts. He was extremely knowlegeable on the PDQ's and had good input on competetive products.

engine noise
They are regrettably rather noisy. Once out of the marina I prefer to run one engine only which is quieter although a bit slower.
I suspect better vibration mounts and sound deadening materials would help a bit but I haven't had a chance to try anything on my boat yet.

rudder protection
I don't need to worry about crab pots in my area but I do get weeds around the rudder post so I have given some thought to the issue. You can not weld a rod to the keel as the keel is fiberglass however you could attach a diverter bar with epoxy however it is a long span from the keel to the rudders...

mainsail recut
To Follow up -- I decided that it was premature to consider replacing my mainsail and instead had it serviced by North Sails - they took out the stretch and added reinforcement at the stress points - they also found the original battens to be far too flexible. With the new stiffer battens and the fa...
