Dripless shaft seals
Hi folks, It's me again with a small but important tecnical update. Since the PDQ 34 was launched there have been several dripless shaft seals delivered in the boat. The factory started out with a PSS seal that did not work very well (quite wet) and they quickly changed to a unit made by Tides marin...

Re: MV 34 - 4 blade props
Hi Folks, After a month of heavy weather cruising in the Bahams I can report one other benefit from the 4 blade props...significantly less cavitation in rough water. I would guess a 50%+ reduction. Further news on the subject: Now that the "bulk purchase" on the props is over, I will no lo...

Re: MV 34 - 4 blade props
Hi Folks,
Now that we are close to receiving the first batch of 4 blade props for the 100 hp engines (75 hp to follow shortly thereafter) Michigan prop has announced that new prices will be in effect for any new orders placed from this date on. As soon as I have the new pricing I will post it.

chlorine tablets in AC strainers
Hi Folks, In performing some maintenance on a PDQ 34 that we just sold, we found an interesting problem that I thought I should pass on. The owner of this boat had been putting chlorine tablets in the ac strainers to keep them growth free. The tablets certainly did that, but the unanticipated side a...

Re: MV 34 - 4 blade props
Hi Jim, Just saw your posting on aqua drives and the sound tiles. I just don't know....we have not tried the 4 blade props on a boat with those options installed so I can't comment. However....logically it would seem that the benefit from the 4 blade props would be at least slightly less, as those o...

Re: MV 34 - 4 blade props
Hi Folks, Last friday we launched HERON with a set of the new DX 4 blade props. WOW....same improvement I saw on Cat's Away when I seatrialed her. Basically same RPM/Speeds. Last summer we put about 2000 miles on her and now with the new props she is like a totally different boat. The improvement is...

Re: MV 34 - 4 blade props
Hi Folks, Just a quick update. as of today we have ten orders in for 100hp props and only two folks requesting props for the 75 hp. We need a minimum of five to place the order. H&H has also informed me that a price increase from Michigan prop on the 100hp props is expected any day and they have...

Re: Fresh Water Pump.
Hi Folks, We have encountered numerous proplems with these pumps, mostly defective pumps (never any questions asked, factory just replaced them, but they suposedly solved the problem and since then we have not seen any failures) but we have also see many of the problems caused by a restriction in th...

Re: MV 34 - 4 blade props
Hi Folks, Finally....here is the info on the 4 blade props for the 75 HP engines. H&H propellor is coordinating this whole issue of props and I have found them most helpful and supportive. The US supplier for them was not interested in developing the patterns necessary to produce the smaller pro...

Re: MV 34 - 4 blade props
Hi folks, I have information on the 4 blade prop upgrade: We have been able to arrange a "quantity" purchase and therefor get a special discount on the props. For the owners with 100hp engines the new props would be Michigan 17X14 LH/RH 4 Blade DQX, Normal cost $746 each, our cost $594 plu...

Water filters on newer PDQ 34's
At one point (not sure what hull #) PDQ started installing a water filter between the water tank and the water pump. The purpose of this filter was to catch any large particullate matter that could foul the fresh water pump check valve. I'm sure many owners have just turned the filter setting to &qu...

Bottom Paint experiment
I did a little experiment this year with bottom paint. I put Micron EXTRA on one hull and the West Marine equivalent PCA Gold on the other hull.....after 11 months of cruising the West product has lasted longer (less paint loss) and is much cleaner in all respects....and for a lot less $$$$ Safe cru...

Re: Time for new House Batteries
Hi! Just for info...Trojan makes three 6V models a 105 AH, A 125AH and a 145 AH. All fit in the house battery compartment. The 145's give you almost a 50% increase in capacity....a nice upgrade for the cruiser that like to anchor out!!......and one more additional vote for solar panels, definitely t...
