Re: Rigid Boom Vang
Finally found the old records for the Rigid Boom Vang (We own 1996 36' LRC - hull #54). It was custom made by Garhauer, and installed by the original owner in 1998 - cost then $270 and cost now around $450. As mentioned above, it keeps the boom up off the bimini top. The pneumatics still work great ...

Re: Volvo folding prop two blade 16x11 3858510
Thanks for that suggestion about the rebuild and also about Kiwi props. We've been "lurking" and reading lots, and if we had not just replaced both propellers in NYC last July on our shakedown/homebound cruise, we might consider them. We had Liberty Marina pull Magic Dragon in NYC and repl...

Re: Yanmar 2 piece Saildrive Zinc Kit
A second to Bob's suggestion to contact www.boatzincs.com as our boatyard is using them for our Yanmar saildrives. They've got lots of good info on the website. Ours are actually three parts, if that makes a difference. I can send part number if it's helpful - send PM here or use angela@roodassoc.co...

Re: Hard top bimini for older PDQ36?
Info from Chris at Live Antares within the last year, when we inquired about retrofitting a hard top on hull #54: The deck must be reinforced in specific ways to facilitate a hard top. They further added that these changes would be nigh to impossible to retrofit. Suggestions involved buying "be...

Volvo folding prop two blade 16x11 3858510
We are looking to re-fit or re-pin a folding Volvo two blade prop that has gotten a bit "sloppy". Once repairs are made, we would only intend to use the old prop as a temporary spare (July of 2008 we replaced propellers in NYC after losing one in Cape May, NY). Our yard is having trouble f...

Re: Bridles and Mooring
Have just begun thinking again about being on the water - ice on the Lake Erie is melted and gone. Was looking for info on redoing the anchor bridle inherited from PO - knew I'd seen a picture here but had a hard time finding it again (one word was mis-spelled in the original posting. Thought others...

Re: Ceiling lights
We've also begun to replace our standard issue lights with LEDs - found some good bargains to replace the smaller ceiling fluorescent fixtures ($23) at Bacon & Associates in Annapolis when we were there for the boat show: http://www.baconsails.com Also found a really neat fixture for over the sa...

Re: Rigid Boom Vang
Magic Dragon has a rigid boom vang - don't know what model or brand, or if it was original or after market. We knew the first owner, so I'm guessing he had the factory install it. Right now we've got about 18" of snow to melt, but when it's a warmer day, I'll go and take some pics / find out mo...

Re: Heating
We're on Lake Erie and often sail in April and November, when less hardy souls are still on the hard. KISS (Keep It Simple, Silly) SOLUTION? We simply used a red clay flower pot and put that on the stove with the burner on underneath it. It is amazing how much heat is released, and how long it lasts...

PUR 35 Powersurvivor Watermaker FOR SALE
We've just removed the PUR 35 Watermaker from hull 54 - 1996 MRK II LRC. We believe the unit was properly serviced prior to our purchase of the boat, and we paid to have the unit "pickled" and disabled before we brought her up the Erie Canal. Unit is being sold because there is no shortage...

Re: 36' LRC gelcoat cracking under bridgedeck
Magic Dragon posting further info from Chris at LiveAntares I've just been on the phone with James. He told me that he'd already been in touch with you after seeing your entry on the PDQ Forum. He also disagreed with my suggestion that the crack was a real crack. And he suggested that I get onto the...

Re: 36' LRC gelcoat cracking under bridgedeck
After sending an inquiry to Salwa at PDQ, got the following reply from chris@liveantares.com The description you provided Salwa is not a mould seam. It sounds like crack in the bridgedeck as a result of wave action -- pounding while heavily loaded. It is serious, but it is easily repairable. We had ...

Re: Insulating the interior
Sounds like you've thought it through pretty well. I like your idea of mounting with velcro for easy access / inspection. Orlando has lots of places to find good bargains on vinyl - 54" wide would work best with fewer seams. You may also be able to find the foam with a surface tight enough to p...
