I have sailed in the Bahamas and Florida for the last 3 years and found that the 25' of chain was not sufficient. I had to use a sentinel.. a 15lb mushroom anchor.. to keep the rode from wrapping the keels in current/wind conditions. Last year I went to 60 ft of chain and the rest 9/16 rode and it w...

We are leaving from the Pamlico River in NC in a week or so. We go down the ICW to Miami and cross from there to Chub and then on to Nassau and then down the Exuma chain to Georgetown. Georgetown has an airport with good service. Staniel Cay also has a small airport that has private service from Nas...

Anyone going to the Bahamas?

Are you planning to go to the Bahamas this year? Susan and I are returning to the Exumas and would like to meet up with anyone going there also.

I store mine in the aft seat locker.. either port or starboard. It must be removed for use. You can purchase or make a cover if you wish to leave it out but I put it back in the locker when not in use. I also decided to have another one for backup in case the primary one fails. It is less expensive ...

I have hull number 36089 with a standard rig and outboards. The boat does half wind speed on pretty much any thing above 60 degrees. The outboards will provide 6 knots at 3900 RPM and 6.5 at 4200 RPM.

I found a supplier that stocks all sizes of cables for the Morse-Teleflex control sets. They also were able to supply the neutral detent switch. If you need to replace anything on your shift controls, try Shoreway Marine. 1 800 443-5408.

Shift Linkage Problems

I just had a problem that may be of interest to some. My shift linkage jammed and would not allow the shift lever to move. I mistakenly started at the shift lever to investigate the problem. After removing the entire shift mechanism, I determined the problem to be at the motor. The end of the contro...

I also use the method that Chet discusses. There is essentially no mess and you can store the used oil in the container until you reach a place where you can dispose of it. If you tilt the engine a little bit, you can get the last amount of oil out. Also, I carry a spare filter assembly and oil dips...

I have a spare engine that had the same problem. I greased the tilt tube and some of the grease escaped onto the spring. I also sprayed the entire spring with a teflon lube and began slowly working it back and forth. After a while the range of movement was extended to where it was functioning again....

Use a needlepoint adapter from NAPA... part # 715-1215. It is a needle nose adapter that fits on your grease gun. Place the point in the hole in the zerk fitting. You will need a small grease gun or a flex hose to be able to get to the fitting.

Engine lanyard problems

Every time I drop my engines I pull hard on the lanyard to be sure the engine is locked down. If not, I open the locker and manually push it down. You should hear a click when the lock engages. You may need to grease the pivot shaft. The lock spring also may need greasing so it will engage automatic...

I like the format. It separates out the boats so you can focus on yours.

I have an AB 2.90VL. It is about 9ft 6 in and weighs 110 lbs. It cost $2300 at the Annapolis boat show. It fits perfectly with the engine. I use a Yamaha 8HP 2 cycle that weighs 62 lbs. It will plane with my wife and I aboard but if I had to do it again I would et a 15 HP. The extra HP would come in...
