Re: Survey 2 - Wind/waves
I am still waiting to hear the Captains version of what happened to the PDQ32. She was heading south to the Bay area and left Oregon in a gale warning. Here is another capsize story of a 108' cat that flipped off the coast of France. How does a boat that heavy capsize in a gust when the apparent win...

Re: Survey 2 - Wind/waves
I don't recall reading about a lee shore. How did that play into the capsize? When we had 30 knot winds going down the Baja we rode the sleigh downwind and did not have to turn back into the wind.

We have an 8' rigid Walker Bay with tube kit and sail package. It is a hoot to sail at anchorages. A 2.5 hp Mercury is all it needs.

Re: Synthetic Rigging
I just did the lifelines with synthetic on our new 32 and am very happy with the results. On our first boat, a Corsair trimaran I did the shrouds and had a big weight savings.

Re: Ground tackle?
We bought our boat in San Diego and took it to the Sea of Cortez recently. Befrore we left we bought a 33# Rocna and have 250' of 5/16" chain and rode with no windlass. We had a good test coming down the outside of the Baja when we had to anchor for two days with the wind blowing 35 to 40 knots...

Is the 15' of chain and rode a typo?
Also, is 1/4: chain stong enough for the your vessel?

Re: FLASH! PDQ 32 CAPSIZE
I read that the captain lost her dog in the capsize so it was more than just the boat they lost. It was good they had registered the EPIRB on the new vessel but why did they not have PFD's on? When we were dismasted on our prior boat, putting on the PFD's was the first thing we did. John 'DreamCatch...

Re: FLASH! PDQ 32 CAPSIZE
Thanks for the update. It was good that they had the prescence to activate the EPIRB before going over. My wife insisted we buy an EPIRB before we left California. I hope we never have the occasion to use it.
Captian and crew are very fortunate that the boat was all they lost.
