Re: Black Exhaust Smoke

EXCELLENT thought on genset. Why didn’t I think of that!? Thanks. We have just now burned through fuel bought last June at Atlantic Yacht Basin and recently refilled in Annapolis. Used 2/3’s of rear tank and 1/2 of front before refilling both. Now they’re full. Took a run after fill and filter swap ...

Service Manuals

Does anyone have any idea where to find Yanmar service manuals for our 4JH3HTE engines? I have an operation manual, but looking for the more detailed service manual. I see some offered on the internet, but am not confident they’re legit or will show 4JH3 specifics.

Black Exhaust Smoke

Both engines are blowing black smoke (starboard much more than port) after recommissioning following 10 months storage in Chesapeake City, VA. Injectors were cleaned and serviced while in storage. Engines start and run fine except starboard side fails to get above 3,000rpm. Port is fine. When black ...

Re: Portlight Replacement

Thank you Mike. Hatch # was easy to find on hatch itself, but portlight more problematic. Tracy was very responsive initially, but warned they were buried with requests. She asked I send a pic of portlights with measurement. I believe Bowmar still makes a similar model, but without the “ears” on eit...

Re: Portlight Replacement

Bowmar was responsive, but have asked for part numbers. Does anybody know the part numbers for the portlights installed on the 2005’s and/or the forward trapezoidal hatchcovers?

Portlight Replacement

Before going deep down the Google rabbit hole I thought I’d ask if anyone has tried to replace the lenses on their Bowmar portlights. I can find Bowmar lenses that are close, but with only tabs on bottom and not with the additional side tabs we have on our ‘05. Of course I could try to polish ours t...

Engine Access

I must be getting fatter and/or less flexible because access to these engines is nothing short of diabolical! Love the boat, but I shudder every time those hatch covers come off and I contemplate getting into something. I’d be curious if there are any tips at all with respect to aging with these boa...

Re: Thru Hull Splash Cover

Thank you for further follow up. You’ve reminded me I think I saw Duetto somewhere and noted the hose barb solution but had forgotten about it. Seems more robust than gluing a clamshell vent to hull as I really don’t like to drill holes if I don’t have to.

Re: Thru Hull Splash Cover

Yep, thank you. That’s precisely the item….. “marine clamshell vent cover.” I found them too after posting my initial question. Pricing is all over the place! All appear to be designed to affix with screws. Our original was glued on (probably why it fell off) and other PDQ’s appear to be the same. D...

Thru Hull Splash Cover

Not sure I have the name correct, but our boats have a little “cowling” on the outside of the hull down the centerline protecting an entry/exit hole. Not sure what that hole is to, but perhaps the anchor locker drain. Anyway, that little cowling has fallen off our boat (it appears to have only been ...

Re: Aluminum Gunnel Rail

Good question! I have been told replacing them would be very expensive. Perhaps it might be possible to find rails off boats being scrapped in Florida after the hurricane, but I’ve not looked and I’m not sure the deck hole spacing is standard.

Re: Dry Bilge

Thanks for comments. I’m thinking this is too much water also. Had a similar issue on port side and turned out to be scoring on the shaft that impacted seal. Installed new shafts of better steel and all good. Now starboard. The fact it’s fine at low rpm says to me it’s an alignment issue. We’ve been...

Dry Bilge

Thought I’d start a new thread on topic of water in bilge. Good to hear a little leakage is normal. We have Tides seals and I’ve monitored the drip while underway. We get nothing when running at 7 knots, but cruising at about 14 knots yields a steady drip and about a gallon of water after four hours...

Re: 2022 PDQ MV34 Flotilla - "Flock to the Block"

We met up with group in Charleston. The only issue is all the boats looked FANTASTIC compared to ours so now I have a new bar! Hope to be ready for next cruise! Carry on.

Re: Bike / Bicycle

I am curious about the comment on getting daily water out of the bilge. We get water, but is that normal? I am pulling my hair out drying to keep bilge bone dry. As an aside, on Catsaway we have full size RAD electric bikes we keep on back bench when underway. Absolutely the best cruising decision I...
