Re: Electric Bilge Pumps

Hey Dean, One option is to mount the pump in the bilge under the forward cabin soles and run the discharge hose up to the area near the fresh water tank and then thru the bridge deck. I don't remember electric bilge pumps being installed on the 36's at the factory, just the manual pump with pickups ...

Re: Refinishing Salon Table

John, As mentioned the cherry was not stained. There were a few different sub contractors that applied the finish to the woodwork over the years. Not sure what products they used but I would guess possibly a lacquer, and it looks like it was sprayed. Some of the boats received the finish that you ha...

Re: Servicing Rudder Posts

John and Ria, Yes adjusting the rudder packing gland can be done in the water, repacking also if in a pinch. The gland design is the same used for propeller shafts that are further below water line and should be addressed in the water to get proper adjustment. One reason to remove the corrosion ( ve...

Re: Stress cracks at window fames

Marc, Can you post some pictures of the window frame stress cracks. The interior cabin sides were covered with melded fabric or foam backed vinyl, both glued in place with contact spray adhesive. The fabric can be peeled back and reglued with care. The vinyl is not so easy as some of the foam will t...

Re: Bridge Closure on ICW?

Hey Bjgin,

Suggest a call on 16 to the local coast guard detachment to verify the location, duration and details. After 4 decades on the icw we have noticed its not an uncommon occurrence.

Safe travels

Re: Hydraulic oil leak at Flybridge Helm

As John said the important things are 3 jaws and they have to fit between the hub and pump face, sometimes requiring grinding down depending on the puller arm dimensions. I have use from a 3 to an 8 inch puller for the removal. Also work clean.

Re: Hydraulic oil leak at Flybridge Helm

A 3 jaw puller will do the trick to remove the wheel. Some are more stubborn then others. Whacking the shaft is not the best for the pump.

Re: Shower Drain

Hey Nick,

Instead of a wire try blasting the outlet with a garden hose, it should flow freely. The gulper 220 sump pump is usually quite reliable. With this said the diaphragm or duck bill's may need replacement after drying out after layup.

Hope this helps

Re: Florida Storage

Hi All,

A little late to the party but would like to mention that if plugging shore power into a 15 or 20 amp GFI outlet with an adaptor it will trip the breaker if you have a Pro Mariner galvanic isolator aboard.

Re: Removing and installing shafts

I can usually slide the shaft far enough aft with props on to get horizontal clearance for the coupling and seal, sometimes requiring turning the rudder. The mid bearing prevents being able to lift the shaft up enough to get vertical clearance needed over the aft engine bilge "hump". In th...

Re: Removing and installing shafts

Yes the coupling removal is usually the toughest part of the job. If you do not have the mid bearing the shaft seals can be replaced without removing the props.

Re: PSS Seal Size or Part Number

Kent, I feel your pain. As mentioned I have had good luck setting the mid bearing into an epoxy cast with a clearance fit and set screws. I have done this on a few 34's, Antares 44's as well as my boat. Replacement time is minutes, with minimal foul language! PYI sells a shaft retention collar that ...

Re: PSS Seal Size or Part Number

Hey All, The mid bearing is a great up grade and seems to solve a lot of ills, thanks Greg. I have come across some bearings that had come loose as Russ cautioned about. It was not pretty and a bugger to repair. Installing the new bearing with a clearance fit into the stern tube and secured in place...
