Re: Heating Fresh Water

Alan,

Thanks for the come back. I forgot to mention that I replaced a Kuuma with a Whale. It cost twice as much as the Kuuma. I hope it is twice as good.

Re: Heating Fresh Water

So, my solution to the water heater problem started with disconnecting the water heater. When I turned on the breaker it did not flip. This told me there was no short in the wire, it was in the water heater. My experience with water heaters has always been the same, they corrode or leak or both. I t...

Re: Bahamas cruising permit question...

Bill, We have been to the Bahamas 6 times since we retired, five times in our sailboat and once in the PDQ 34. You and your boat can stay 6 months, but it is a little more complicated. We clear in at Bimini. Each year they give us 90 days, and we have to extend another 90 days about two weeks before...

Battery combiner

About ten days ago I decided it was time to start the engines and run them till they warmed up just because we should all do this once in a while. No problems, the were fine. Then it hit me: the battery switches on both engines were off. How did they start? After some head scratching I realized that...

Re: Rule Bilge pump failure

I admit, I got a little paranoid about bilge pumps. The high bilge alarms that I recently finished installing are completely separate from the bilge pumps and are wired to a breaker so I can turn them off. Who wants to listen to an alarm while trying to find the problem? Probably a simple switch wou...

Re: Heating Fresh Water

My water heater flips the breaker when I turn it on. It does not just flip the water heater breaker, it shuts down the entire AC electrical panel. This seems odd as it was working most of the season in the Bahamas. I have not touched the AC electrical system at all, but I have made a few simple DC m...

Re: Hard Top?

We hauled to boat for the annual bottom job. We decided to leave the props as they are. The only thing was to install the new hardtop! The Atlantic Towers top is about 10 feet by about 11 feet and weighs less than 200 pounds. Three guys can pick it up easily. They save weight by making the fiberglas...

Re: Thoughts on Watermakers ?

Bill,

I essentially agree with John. If you start out in the Abacos, you can do without a water maker. It is fairly civilized with half a dozen marinas and even a nice grocery store in Marsh Harbor. It is also a good place for friends to fly into.

Re: Thoughts on Watermakers ?

Bill, We have an '05 that came with a water maker installed by one of the previous owners. It was installed and never used for two years. They say that leaving a water maker unused for so long will ruin the membrane, but it worked perfectly. It makes 20 gallons per hour so we run it once a week for ...

Re: trans oil cooler?

I just googled DC60 and came up with a web site: https://www.asap-supplies.com/us/bowman ... ler-203020
It says 1/2" BSP oil and 22mm ID water. Not sure if that is what you are looking for.

Re: Starter

Alan, I replaced the starter. The oil line was in the way of the lower bolt. It is attached to the engine by two metal supports that look like straps. I could not figure them out at first, so I stuck my instant camera under there and took a couple of shots to see what was going on. I have used this ...

Re: New owner in Jacksonville need help

The water pump failure seems very strange to me. I have never replaced one in any of the three boats I have owned over a period of twenty years. After reading the forum, I carry a spare. There is a PDQ 34 in Bellingham Washington that is in charter. The owners have put together a nice tutorial for t...

Starter

While at the dock, I started the engines just because I am heading to the yard in a week or so, and wanted to make sure there were no problems. Good thing I did. The starboard engine was making a very strange noise, sort of a moaning sound. I thought it was a belt, so I had a look. It looked fine, b...

Re: Rule Bilge pump failure

Well, it looks like I found the problem before anyone could reply. Apparently, the previous owner was in the process of installing a high water alarm and did not complete the job. He did a nice job of mounting the float switches and running the wires to the area below the power panel and up the cond...
