"... at the electronic repair shops recommendation, we disconnect the radio antenna when not need and during thunderstorms."
I believe this to be very good advise.
Best to all.

Re: Lightning Strikes
I have read that catamarans have a greater propensity for getting zapped. ATTITUDE (Capella) had what I believe was a near lightening strike. Fried the power transformer in the VHF radio. Took out the anenometer, battery charger, antenna tuner as well as several of the yellow indicator lights on the...

Re: Main Sail Handling
Phil: First, I apologize for using Mac Sail and Mac Pack. It is, as you have written, Mack Sail. Duh! I've been at the store at least a dozen + times over the last 5 years. They are only a couple three (Maine saying) down the road from me. Rather than my trying to explain the "bag/cover", ...

Love our Mac Pack! No separate sail cover to deal with. One less hassle One less reason not to hoist the sail. Great company to deal with. They know sails and sailing.

Go LED, young man.
LED's seems to meet two of your requirements - low draw and better lighting. Perhaps some web surfing and you will find LED's in your price range.

Grounding Outboards
It is ok to ground the outboards. The outboards are grounded by the negative (-) of the starter. And the negative of the starter is part of the negative grounding system.

Re: SSB?
Here is some information concerning grounding systems. Rule #1 Ground everything. The greater the surface area of the total metal the better. Rule #2 If you have it use it.
