Re: Hello from Down East!

I found that the 32 felt like a sportier boat to sail. It tacks easily with the self tacking jib and it seems to respond more quickly to wind changes but when the water gets bumpy a little extra length will always make for a better ride. The 32 rarely suffers from slap under the bridge deck but I do...

Re: Hello from Down East!

You are correct in determining the PDQ32 and 36 are unique in terms of quality and sailing ability for cats in this size. We sail a 32 in Ontario but I sailed the 36 on charter a couple times so I have experienced them both. Our local marina could not handle the beam of the 36 so we went with the 32...

Re: Solar

I have the same three panel set up on the hardtop. They did a reasonable job of supporting the batteries but they were not enough to keep up with normal daily loads so I added one 150 watt panel over the davits. Now I no longer need to plug in.

Just to clarify on my prior note - I am referring to an asymetrical spinnaker.

Re: Sym-Spin Setup

I anchor my sym on a line that I run between the bow cleats. I leave enough slack to set the tack at about the level of the top of the gull striker. This lets me move the tack from side to side for the best draw depending on where the wind is coming from. It also lets the sail set out a bit further ...

Re: Rainwater drain on hartop gunnel

They were probably drilled at the factory as my boat has them also. I added a couple more for better drainage.

Re: New PDQ32 mainsail report

I did not silicone the Tides track. It is a very slippery plastic but a little silicone might help. My main halyard does rout to the cockpit which no doubt adds drag. My boom is a Selden profile with a substantial steel traveller at the outhaul. It seems to handle the loading well without a boom str...

New PDQ32 mainsail report

20140531_155535_resized.jpg I have now had a few hours on the water with my new mainsail. I bought a North tri-radial sail constructed from their Norlam material. It has about 20 square feet of extra area with a loose foot. I had them shorten the foot a bit as the original sail foot length had no o...

Re: Bimini top

I had a solid white cover made for my bimini windows as I found the greenhouse effect of the clear panels too hot for my comfort. As a result I am in the habit of checking the sail shape by looking around the bimini and I really can't say I miss the window view. Once you spend enough time with the b...

Re: stack pack vs sail cover

I have ordered a stack pack for my boat. I have a stack pack on our Caribbean boat and it is much easier to put the sail to bed even though it is a 44 versus the 32. I also just installed a new Tides Marine sail track with new slides as I also purchased a new main sail. On releasing the halyard the ...

Re: A new mainsail for a 32 - questions

WOW - that will certainly keep you visible on the water!

I am installing my new main today - I went with a North tri-radial using their Norlam material. The material is a light grey colour so my visibility on the water will not match yours.
I'll report on how it works out.

Don't bother with the sound deadening foam. I installed it but the sound level difference is not noticeable.

Re: Project report- Spinnaker furler

Interesting.
I have a gennaker that spends too much time stowed in the forepeak. With a furler it might get more useg. Food for thought.
