Re: Ground Tackle
I have a Delta 35 with 50' chain and its never let us down. A few weeks ago it held nicely in 40+ kts t'storm while the boat next to us drag a CQR around the anchorage. We carry a Fortress FX-23 as a secondary on the other bow, with 20' of chain. I share your opinion about resetting, but its not tha...

Re: Out of water storage stand / blocking
I'm not sure it's possible to raise the boat with the jackstand! I hand tighten several times a year, but have never felt I was taking much pressure off the hulls. If you were planning this, you should make sure its as level as possible to start, and the stands are well footed, perhaps on boards or ...

Re: Out of water storage stand / blocking
I've always used three pairs of jackstands holding 4"x4"x8' pressure treated deck beams that have a strip of carpet stapled on. I add those on after the yard puts it down on the keels and blocks the stern. (The LRC is a bit stern heavy and needs the extra blocking.) http://www.sv-loki.com/...

Re: winter cover and projects
There is a thread titled "SD20 saildrive diaphragms replacement" where I posted links to an article about replacing the seal on a Volvo saildrive which is almost identical. Also, someone else posted some comments on the process. I've long wanted to sew a cover for Loki, but have been told ...

Re: Hot Water Heater Leak
My hot water heater came with plastic Whale fittings directly on the tank. By the end of the first season one had failed. I replaced both input and output with the proper metal fittings - a flexible one foot metal hose with the Whale fitting on the end and haven't had a problem since.

Re: Holding tank questions
Holding Tank problems / questions Had some bad odor coming from the holding tank. Sam sugested the vent hose and I did find it to have a large dip in it trapping the overflow. The hose was also just plain re-inforced poly and was quite old and yellowed. I changed that with a much shorter length of ...

Re: steerage problem
Alan, Yes, the torque creates yaw. Consider a keel boat running downwind. If it rolls, the Center of Effort moves well out to the side, creating a torque which cause the boat to yaw in the opposite direction. The worst case is when there's a chute up which is swaying side to side, -> torque -> yaw -...

Re: steerage problem
Perhaps I misunderstand, but I think the "Torque Theory" relies on the the heeling of the boat to put the driving force off to the side of the resistance. Without heeling, it comes down to Center of Effort relative to Center of Lateral Resistance.

Re: Inverter Pure Sine or MSW?
I'll be interested in seeing the results. I voted MSW because I have the old Heart (now Xantrex) Freedom 20 which is MSW and I haven't ever had a problem with it. It gets used daily for the microwave, coffee grinder, and a few other odd appliances. For smaller items, like the laptop and toothbrush, ...

Re: Shore Power Problems
Very interesting. But I'm curious, can you (or anyone else) explain why the galvanic isolator should trip a sensitive GFCI? Does the GI "leak" 5 milliAmps, and if so, does it go anywhere, or just cycle through the wires?

Re: Water pressure and the water filter
It sure sounds like the problem has nothing to do with the pumps - do you still have them? While I can't address your problems directly, I can say this: We have a Shurflo on our 36 and every spring I fight with it to get it working. Since I break down the system and blow air through it every winter ...

Re: Anchoring/Mooring Bridal
RE Pictured anchor bridal: The lines with shackles go to the bow cleats. The line on the ring is the anchor rode. As to anchoring on one hull, this did not work well for me probably because the Powercat has a lot more windage than the 36 and may "sail" more at anchor. Also with the windla...

Re: Anchoring/Mooring Bridal
I use a 16ft bridal. If too long you can reduce the effectiveness and boat will "sail" more. Rather than using a rolling hitch, I use a stainless ring and shakles per attached photo. Forgive my ignorance; how is this bridal used? I'm guessing the two lines with hooks attach to the bow cle...

Re: What was the last PDQ 36 made?
Gosh! $285K for an outboard model with little gear? I hope that helps our $199K look attractive :-) It might make yours look better, but the discerning eye will notice that its an "Express," which is actually a quite different and unique boat. The rig is 30% larger, the weight is 30% less...

Re: Trouble at PDQ ??
At the Newport show (Sept '07) Simon told me that the PDQ 36 molds were destroyed, as it would cost too much to store them. When I asked "what if you (or someone else) want to make some more 36's?" he said that if anyone wanted to do a 36 nowadays, they would start with a fresh design and ...
