Re: SD20 saildrive diaphragms replacement

My understanding is that alarm is is connected to the engine control panel and is active when the key is on. The real question is whether it is set up in a failsafe way, so that the alarm would sound if the wire broke or fell off. I guess I'll have to go through some wiring diagrams and check it out...

Re: Updated Forum software

It looks nice and I'm sure it will work better. One thing - its doesn't seem to remember my auto-login. I'm pretty sure I have the needed "cookies" settings. It remembers my name/password; it just forgets to log me in. Also, are there any options that can be used when when invoking, such i...

Most things are obvious, but here a few things that might not be: I never use a shackle; I tie a bowline in the halyard. Take a small line with a bag with you so the person on deck can pass up whatever you forgot. But the most important thing is wear long pants!

Interesting. 330 Watts at 12 Volts is 28 Amps which would seem like a pretty heavy long term draw on a battery system. The wire loss could be minimized with dedicated heavy duty wire, which would be appropriate in this case. Since the efficiency of an inverter is only high at certain loads, you migh...

LCD TV Mount

The time has come to upgrade the old TV to LCD. I have a Sylvania 15" HDTV (but not widescreen) in the kitchen that should fit nicely on my Capella, but I'm not sure how to mount it. The space over the fridge has the most room, and the bulkhead provides a good mounting place, but my wife would ...

The Sailrite machines are $650 for the straight, $850 for the zigzag. The "off label" versions are about half the price. For me it was a good deal, because I never would have paid the Sailrite price. On the other hand, the Sailrite machines definitely get and overhaul, including such thing...

I should point out that my machine has a name like "Camper's Tentmaker" from ebay seller "geeyaah." The other machine shown, from Tuffsew, looks like the same item and I'm guessing my friends got the 9-inch version they sell. I bought mine two years ago, and its a zig-zag, so I c...

That machine is a non-zigzag version of the Sailrite, without the extra parts and tuneup the Sailrite has. I bought the zigzag version from the same supplier before Sailrite's lawyers informed them that they had the exclusive US rights. It has worked OK for a number of smaller projects, but I can be...

Yes, I also got the email - following back to the web site:

It appears that the company may be surviving in some form. There is very little new company info, but the address listed is in Whitby.

I'm not sure how this qualifies as a "LAN" and not wifi, since it looks like its just another high power wifi/usb adapter. Does it use special software? After having having a lot of trouble with the old style card in my old laptop, I got a EnGenius NUB-362 EXT for under $50. It has 200 mW ...

My windlass is hooked up to the house bank - the starting batteries are effectively hardwired to their respective engines. (Loki is an LRC, BTW.) As for running through the chase, I think that's how its wired, but I can't get on the boat right now to check it. Mine is pretty full, but there's always...

Loki, 36072, has a factory installed Sprint 1000 on the starboard bow. It works OK, but the original failed after about 5 years. I replaced with the same rather than cut a new hole, but if I were starting fresh I would look carefully for the most reliable, rugged unit. My old boat had a manual windl...
