Re: 1996 PDQ Classic Refrigeration

Hey K. I own 36052, the boat right before yours. We likely have the same refrigeration, even though mine is the diesel (LRC) boat. The fridge has an L shaped top, with a locking spring to hold it up when open. The inside of the fridge has a sort of upper and lower section. The lower section has a sm...

Re: Waht to do about bottom paint job not "holding up"?

Yes, The hard vs soft paint thing is interesting. On the Florida boat, I use Trinidad. On the Chicago boat, I use Pettit Vivid. While Pettit describes it as a hybrid of hard and soft technologies, it isn't. It's soft. If you scrub it, it comes off, so in my mind it's soft. That said, it's a great pa...

Re: Waht to do about bottom paint job not "holding up"?

Yikes. That sounds pretty bad. The diver's report is far worse than I thought. That ain't bad paint, that's almost no paint IMHO. I've had one similar situation. I had the boat at an open yard in Chicago and I used a contractor (not the yard) to repair some external damage. He walked off the job aft...

Re: Waht to do about bottom paint job not "holding up"?

Hey Brenda, I agree with Thinwater that Unipoxy is a cheaper paint. But it's not that bad. A couple things: 1: $140 per gallon is high. It's $95 on Defender. I expect a yard markup, but almost 50% ? 2: I also agree that 5 gallons sounds fishy. I suspect you got 1 coat. 3: I have a boat in SW Florida...

Re: Structural or not?

Ah....I see. I think you could probably come in through the top if you had to. But then you have to make sure that the seat is somehow reinforced... Are you sure you can't do the install from the side? I know that the water maker installs can be a pain. I don't think there's a structural issue, thou...

Re: Structural or not?

Yes, the space below the nav station seat is easily opened up. I'm surprised yours didn't have a door on it. On the Anne Z, that space had a removable door made of starboard. Recently, I had to slightly enlarge the opening to get out the old water heater for replacement. As a result, the starboard d...

Re: Shower sump pump hose

Thanks guys, What a job! Unfortunately,Sam, my boat does not have a removable shower pan. I tried blowing out the hoses with a garden hose and they both had no clogs. So that left me with no choice but to replace both hoses, since I figured air was getting sucked in somewhere. The hose coming off th...

Water Heater replacement

All, As is probably obvious from my last post, I'm working on the water system. The old Seaward is leaking from the tank. I need to replace it. I don't have room for the instant propane unit like on Cat Tales, since the Anne Z has giant diesel engines in the rear, plus I don't want to run new propan...

Shower sump pump hose

All, I'm having difficulty with the shower sump pump. It has suction for a few seconds, then loses it. I swapped out the pump and bypassed the filter as a test and have the same problem. I think it probably is sucking air at some point. What's strange to me is that the hose that feeds the the sump p...

Re: Water in port rudder compartment

PDQ1.jpg Hi All, I thought I'd finally follow up on this subject. I think that I've solved the problem. Unfortunately, the pics in the posts below aren't showing up in either Chrome or Safari for me, so hopefully they do for you. I've attached a pic I took a couple years ago in case. The rudder pos...

Re: 2001 36 Galley Faucet?

OK. I bought the Whale faucet that Joe linked to. Only 96 bucks at http://www.jmsonline.net/fold-down-faucet-chr-hotcold.htm I'd never used JMS before, but the price was right and they had it in stock. The holes are maybe 1/4" too narrow on the PDQ, but a little drill work fixed that and the fa...

Re: 2001 36 Galley Faucet?

I just got the stem from Scandvik. The spline pattern doesn't fit. They must have changed them at some point. Pretty much ready to give up on this faucet.

Project report- Spinnaker furler

RX6 5 (1).jpg RX6 3 (1).jpg RX6 1 (1).jpg OK, so you all know I like to be the first to try something stupid, so here goes. I saw the top-down spinnaker furlers that have come out in the last few years and was intrigued. I decided that maybe (just maybe), one would work on our boats with a fairly s...

Re: 2001 36 Galley Faucet?

Thanks a lot, Jim. I took the faucet stem to Home Depot, and they don't have anything like it. I can save anyone the effort of coating the splines on the top. There are 18. Couldn't find any on the web. Anyway, Scandvik sells the stems for $26. But my faucet is pretty beat up, so the extra $ for a n...
