Re: Holding tank pump out- help
It is certainly possible to completely clog the hoses. My previous boat (a Nonsuch 30) had been lived aboard (by others) for a number of its 10 years before we found the 1.5 inch lines narrowed to about .25 inches! I spent a day offshore pulling out all the hoses and whacking them with hammers to cl...

Re: Polling Question - Mooring Swing
We spent 8 weeks last summer on a tight mooring in Vineyard Haven (and have done several weeks almost every summer for 10 years) and had very little problem. The moorings in our area are about 50 feet apart, and most of the boats are 35 feet, so the system relies on common movement. My feeling is th...

That's not the life jacket locker; that's the cat box locker!

Re: screening main cabin hatch/door area
On our 36 we have a Phantom "rollup" screen door. It was custom installed in 2000 in Ft Laudredale - the guy showed up with his truck, measured and cut to size, installed it in about an hour for about $200+. Its the perfect device for a sliding patio style door - no problems at all in 9 ye...

Re: Propane Cooktop Issue Revisited
The solenoid was whatever WasteMarine has. The metal is "soft iron" so its not going to last long saturated in sea air. I guess I should just buy another, vacuum seal it, and stash it since I'll be needing it within a few years! The tanks are the "Lite Cylinder Company" brand: ht...

Re: Propane Cooktop Issue Revisited
On the 36 the propane locker is open to the elements because of the big "tie rod." Good for ventilation, but terrible for rust. I replace the solenoid every 3 years - the last one pretty much fell apart in my hands. For a while I used the "dual tank, automatic switch over" style,...

Re: Windlass - Simpson Lawrence Sprint 1000
I was just at the boat and looked up what the manual says and thought I'd put it in here for posterity. There is a table for Gypsy 608RC60 - I assume the "8RC" means 8mm, Rope/Chain - which lists 5 types of chain. The "P" dimension is the width of the "hole" in the chai...

Re: Windlass - Simpson Lawrence Sprint 1000
I have a Sprint 1000 and use Acco G4, spliced to NE Rope 9/16 3-strand nylon. This was the combo the gypsy was designed for. I'm surprised that yours works with BBB, since I thought that had a shorter link. It is possible that you have a different gypsy, or that my memory is faulty. My "parts n...

Re: Heart Interface Voltage Low.
My Heart 2000 ('99 vintage) shows under 100 Volts when the Microwave is "on" but not actually running. The way I have the settings, the 'wave's standby mode is not enough to fully turn on the inverter, and sometimes this can cause a problem programming the 'wave. When running it shows abou...

But clearly they did not take all of the data. They either took a few points and connected the dots with a program, which would be good practice, or made up lots of it, which is not. Perhaps I should clarify: there is virtually zero doubt in my mind that the polar is completely computer generated. ...

Re: Steering cables
Sandy, Thanks for the writeup - this should be very helpful. I have 36072, now 10 years old and have paid little attention to the steering. It's gotten slightly stiffer over the years, and I'm afraid I've done nothing other than add a bit of gear oil and grease. So I'm curious as to what problems le...

Re: speed polar plot on PDQ36.com
That sure looks like the output of a Velocity Prediction Program (VPP); I'd be willing to bet on on it. It may be that the magazine verified that the results are reasonable, but I can't believe they actually collected all of the data points reflected in the report. Also, the equivalent report for th...

Re: Princess two burner stove issues
I've had to replace the solenoid/regulator at least twice in 10 years - the 36 allows too much water into the locker, but that's obviously good for drainage. This year the solenoid was disintegrating when I touched it - the regulator might have been OK for a few more years but its just as easy to do...

OK, next on the list for winter projects is to replace the seals on my saildrives. Please take pictures! I think I might be doing this in a year or two, eventually all the LRC's will need this, I assume. (I sympathize with your issue with the hatch, I have to grease up to "go down the hole&quo...

Re: water in keel
Bob, ... I finally had them put in permanent bronze drains which are almost flush with the bottom of the keel and have a screw-in bronze plug with a recessed square hole to accomodate a wrench. Allezcat 36010 Can you describe exactly where the plugs are? On the bottom, or on the side of the keel? I...
