Re: Hull #12 Possible Fresh Water Leak???

In 4 cases, my water leaks all came from the exterior enclosure: one from a poorly seated stanchion on the life line; one from a loose navigation light, and two from failed sealants at the curved salon windows.

Sail area

Has anyone ever verified the size of the standard Capella 36's main or jib, or know the rating? I hope to be in the Constellation Cup race in Baltimore's Inner Harbor in a couple weeks and have never had a rating, Thus I started measuring sails. I can't get anywhere near what the owner's manual says...

Re: Straightening a bent rudder post.

Just got mine back on. It had been bent in 2 planes. Prettiy sure I had snared a submereged crabpot, which in turn got stuck on something like a log. A nearby marina ( Markley's on Middle River, off the Chesapeake) has a large enough travel lift to hoist our boat. They dropped the rudder and sent it...

Re: Looking for a PDQ 36

Let me also welcome you "aboard". We also are on the bay, sailing out of Middle River, just above Baltimore. Unlike Roger, I am still working, :( so we are here all year. Feel free to call or email. Our email is Dan.White@comcast.net. ; Phone 410-666-3936 (H) Another good resource for mult...

Re: Straightening a bent rudder post.

As luck would have it, almost immediately after reading these posts, I hit a submerged object at about 3 knots. The impact bent the rudder back so that it was pushed hard against the underside of the hull. As a consequence I was barely able to move the wheel. After anchoring and groping around in th...

Re: Genoa questions

I have had both, on 2 different boats. There is certainly a huge convenience factor with self-tacking, but it comes at a pretty high loss of performance. I have often thought it would be neat to have the option of both from the same Genoa. For self-tacking you would keep it partially furled. If you ...

Re: Salon Windows

Interesting topic. I don't have ANY screws in my salon side windows. I discovered today, while tracking down a leak, the windows are totally held in place by an adhesive. Probably silicone. The one on the starboard side was literally delaminating from the adhesive. I've just finished putting a bead ...

Re: "No Fix" with Raytheon RL70 Chartplotter

I just went to every place I could find the cable, as mentioned above and tugged out every little bit I could.

Re: "No Fix" with Raytheon RL70 Chartplotter

I ordered it direct from the Raytheon factory. As I recall they gave me a price break. I also believe you can order it through a dealer. The tricky part depends on where it is mounted and how handy you are (I'm not that good.) Anyway, mine is on the top of the dinghy davit. The wires run through the...

Re: "No Fix" with Raytheon RL70 Chartplotter

I had exactly the same problem about 4 years ago. (Hull # 36096, 2003 Capella.) Raytheon replaced mine with a new 125 and have had no problems since.
The installation was a bit tricky.

Re: Cockpit storage of sheets and halyards

Hi Roger, Bonnie, Chris and Kelly
Thanks for some great ideas. I also use the 3M hooks for the reefing lines, but I never thought about the roof supports and grab rails. Appreciate the feedback. Once again, what a great resource this board is.

Cockpit storage of sheets and halyards

Is anybody really happy with where they store sheets and halyards? I put some hooks on the bulkheads on either side of the cockpit, but, with the access hatches to the outboard engines and the helmsmens' seats, it is very congested. ( I have a seat on both sides of the cockpit. Also have 2 extra lin...

Re: Capella, episode two

as I recall, the "Capella-express" had daggerboards and removed 2000 pounds of weight. Added 25% more sail area. In addition to those, I would also like, but recognize some of them would add weight, so they may not be adviseable: Wider walking area at side decks; Higher bridgedeck clearanc...

Re: Ventilation

Thanks for the responses guys. Chris, I am trying to visualize which hatches you mean by "open/locked position on your port & starboard hatches in the galley & nav station." On my boat I have the hatches over the dinette, which have the same leak issue you referred to; hatches in t...

Ventilation

In retrospect, I was not smart when I ordered the ventilation for my boat when she was built (36096). In the original order I only had one solar powered Nicro exhaust fan put in the hatch over the shower area. Later, I added an inlet fan to the hatch in the port side aft cabin. Since the heat still ...
