Re: Mid-Chesapeake PDQ Get-Together?

Wind Seeker and crew is up for it. However, we have “mid Chesapeake” at around the Solomons Island latitude. Consider also Domingo Creek (back door to St Michaels) Tilghman Island, Little Choptank R. and the Honga R. and Hooper Island. All perfect anchorages for cats of our draft. Ray and Paula

Re: Water Heater Again

Yep, sure have James We had a marine grade one on our previous cat that needed at purchase price equivalent expense calibration periodically. We believe we have ample ventilation in that compartment and feel secure with that arrangement. We also might remind everyone that those heaters exhaust a tre...

Re: Going Up The Mast on A Capella

Hi Mike,

It coils up into a its storage bag roughly 24 inches in diameter and 6 inches deep. You will have to attach slides for the mast track. I had to reduce the thickness of the slides I bought to fit our Selden mainsail track. Check out eBay there may be one for auction there.

Re: Going Up The Mast on A Capella

Going Aloft I was once capable of hauling my self aloft using a block and tackle with a boson’s chair. Then my wife could winch me up, and then a bunch of neighbors could do it with 18 inch winch handles. Now a crane is necessary. I had the ATN Top Climber and it worked ok if you made the climbing l...

Water Heater Again

We used an Excel demand hot water heater located in our aft locker for several seasons. Although reliable at making hot water, we found its location for temperature adjustments, battery replacement and moderate exposure to the elements unacceptable. We bought another water heater on eBay and install...

EPIRB Battery Replacement

Our ACR EPIRB had an outdated battery. ACR no longer provides battery replacement service. The best we could find was an outfit in Florida who took over the business from them. EPRIB battery replacement service, system check and service and a warranty antenna replacement costs $220.00 shipping inclu...

Re: Lightning Strikes

Have any PDQ 36 owners been hit by lightning? Yes, discovered all GFI outlets pooped and batteries dead on Wind Seeker after a thunderstorm. What were the circumstances (i.e. direct mast head strike, side flash, EMP, anchored, sailing, docked in marina or on the hard)? EMP from a nearby Pine Tree st...

Re: hot and cold water lines

Hello Warren, Our PDQ 36 -3695-2002 model came with color coded water lines red for hot and blue for cold. If you trace the lines you have back some you may discover which is which. You may have to go back as far as a sink, shower or transom faucet. You will like the Excel but be sure you remove all...

Starting Battery for 9.9s?

My 2002(?) Pow-R-Surge model 24M5 starting battery has finally died after 6 years of service cranking our 9.9s. I was unable to find a cross reference for it on the net. The top is sealed but I cannot determine if it is an AGM, No Maintenance Lead Acid, or Gel. We like the fact that it lasted this ...

Re: Yamaha water pump replacement

Hello Sam and Gina, I am a preventive maintenance nut and had concerns about our water pump impellers. (see earlier posting below). I have since made two discoveries that may ease your mind. One: The Yamaha maintenance manual does not even address replacing impellers and the ones I bought are far mo...

Bi-folding Cabin Doors

Wind Seeker’s head door opened into the cabin and we hound that inconvenient at times especially when accessing the cabinet it obstructed. Reversing the door to open into the head made that space crowed. So I split the difference and made the cabin door a bi-folding one. Having had success at that I...
