Re: electrolysis

Well I changed the one bronze through hull to a Marelon fitting this season. It was a good thing I did as it crumbled in my hands. I also hooked the counterpoise for the SSB to the Dynaplate. I have a capacitive bridge between the radio and the plate. I was astounded to see the zincs both on the ind...

stern bench

Can someone with a newer boat tell me the size of the ss pipe used for the aft bench/davits. It is on my to do list to build one. Better yet if you have good photos I would much appreciate them.

winter cover

We finally got our winter cover on. We bought a heavy duty tarp(silver)for the job. We ended up putting two long darts in from the bimini to a point on the toe rail. We cut around the stays and sewed dacron reinforcing in and added a few snaps. The "frame" is plastic banding material which...

Re: Shrink wrap vs Custom Tarp

We had our boat shrink wraped last year for $50 mast down. They said it would be less expensive with the mast down. Well, crane time up and down -$250, labor to go with the crane $$150 but the kicker was I had to put new backstays on in the spring because unnoticed by me they stripped the turnbuckle...

Re: Water Heater Again

I ended up buying the Excel brand because of the oxygen depletion sensor. Nice little unit!

Re: Water Heater Again

My old heat exchanger water heater sprung a leak and I'd have to take the stbd. liner out to get at it. I decided to go with a propane unit but when I tried to find the Excel or Ecotherm I can't seem to find an active link for purchase. Does anyone have contact info?
Thanks

Re: Bed-making

We have a standard queen coil mattress. For moisture control I went to home depot and purchased some ridge vents and put them under the mattress. To prevent that "clammy" feeling that cotton give try micro fiber sheets. Hated to give up the cotton but there is a difference. As for making t...

Re: Scupper for fwd lockers

I went through the clam shell drill when PDQ was alive and found the number given way too small. I was lucky enough to find a spare original in a locker so I never went any further. What I was intimating was that it should be pretty cheap and easy to splash a mold off of the other remaining scupper....

Re: Scupper for fwd lockers

I found one when I was cleaning a dark corner of the boat. Before I found it I had contacted the factory and they gave me a number for a raw water intake scoop which was way too small. I think you could make a quick mold using your existing scupper. Here are a couple of ideas; http://www.taxidermy.c...

Re: Yanmar 2 piece Saildrive Zinc Kit

Personally I do not see the reason to use these split zincs. If the spline is properly greased it only takes minutes to disassemble the blades and remove the hub to change out the one piece zincs. I know the split zincs are >$100 and the originals can be had for < $20.
