Re: Anchor Rode Options

This thread is a few months old, but just catching up on some things I missed. We bought our boat with a 55 lb (no typo) Rocna already aboard. It is definitely overkill, but the extra dozen pounds is pretty insignificant compared to the other weight that gets stowed in the forward lockers. I have al...

Re: Move Water Heater

Interesting, Bob. First, I have heard of Stuart Yacht making that mod to a boat before, supposedly to avoid wasting all the water while waiting for hot water to arrive. I don't know if coolant hoses were run from one of the engines, or if the heater was solely electric. We tend to move a lot so we g...

Re: HAPPY NEW YEAR

Yes, a belated Happy New Year to all. We lead a club cruise to a local anchorage at Cayo Costa Island over the New Year. We had slightly cool (that means 60F down here), but otherwise wonderful conditions Sat and Sun, but we all needed to scoot home (1-4 hours depending on your boat) before the fier...

Re: Fresh Water water flow PDQ 34

Yes, cleaning out the tank sediment (from whatever sources) is something we should do periodically. It was interesting that I did this in Feb of 2015, but wound up removing the filter because the housing inlet was clogged with gravel/flakes within about 18 months. Of course, we were cruising extensi...

Re: Fresh Water water flow PDQ 34

Thanks. It is great for all concerned when the results are posted here. Glad it worked out for you, and now you are intimately familiar with that portion of your boat's systems.

Cheers,
Duane

Re: Fuel Pick up tube problem

Well, in order to pump (transfer) that much fuel into the aft tank, you would eliminate much of the partial vacuum in that tank. Plus, if the vent was allowing air in only very slowly, maybe that bit of time lapse allowed the pressure to come back close to atmospheric. The reason, to me, that the ve...

Re: Fuel Pick up tube problem

James would know more than I would, but if the check valve is stuck closed, that would seem to be a good reason for the problem you had.

Re: New owner in Jacksonville need help

I mean this not to be offensive, but new-owner Bill posted his pleas for help almost two weeks ago and has received a lot of replies. I reached out to him with an email through this forum with no reply, either. Hope he responds here soon...

Re: New owner in Jacksonville need help

Our boat has a 10 inch cartridge filter housing located under the refrigerator. The water tubing used to lead directly from the tank to the filter, from there to a shutoff valve under the floorboard in the galley, and then to the pump. I found that a slowing of water flow meant the filter was clogge...

Re: Fuel Pick up tube problem

I was trying to figure out what could affect both engine fuel lines at the same time and the vent is definitely all I could come up with. Thanks, James, for being there for us. Good luck, Kent.

Re: Heating Fresh Water

So, Mac, what was the final conclusion? I just re-read these posts and saw that your maintenance guy was not able to find a heat exchanger. The rectangular object next to the valve cover on the side of the exhaust is the engine's heat exchanger, but all that matters to get hot fresh water from the e...

Re: New owner in Jacksonville need help

Bill, welcome to the PDQ family. I will describe the fuel transfer on our boat. Dick Tuschick from Rhumbline Yacht Sales recommends this method and I agree. At the forward tank, identify the two valves for transferring fuel and open them (and leave them that way 100% of the time). Set the switch on ...

Re: Fore / Aft Boat Balance

A few thoughts, Mac; not sure they'll help any. Our 2006 trims bow heavy by at least 3 inches with full water and fuel, but without the 250 lb dinghy/engine on the davits. When I hoist the dink, it is still slightly bow heavy, but only an inch or so. Dick Tuschick has said that since the stern squat...

Re: Surveyor

When we purchased in Stuart, Ed Rowe came down from Vero Beach. That is about 110 miles from Ft. Lauderdale. I think he is pretty familiar with PDQs, He won't survey unless the buyer is by his side to see and discuss what he finds. Make sure you check the condition of the two A/C units. The original...

Re: Anchor Rode Options

Two quick comments, Mac; 1. You don't really mean that you have 5/8 chain, do you? That is almost 4 lbs per foot and way oversize for our boats, IMHO. 2. If I understood one of your options was to add a length of chain to existing chain, I think many consider "splicing" chain together with...
