30A shore power receptacles on boat

I did a search on 'receptacles' and found nothing relevant, so... I recently had a malfunction of one of the legs on the shore power connection and it damaged both the boat receptacle and the cord. Thankfully, no fire, but I will need to replace both ASAP. It was my fallback position that since we r...

Re: BOTTOM PAINT

It usually varies with your environment. Our boat has used Pettit Ultima SR 60 for at least 6 years and we have liked it. We are docked in brackish water but get pure salt water for months at a time when we cruise.

Re: Irma

Diva Di in Punta Gorda got very lucky, although I have yet to do more than a quick, exterior inspection. We left our evacuation home 10 miles inland on Mon (day after storm) to check out our home and boat and found very little damage to structures (even pool cage screens). The only apparent damage w...

Re: Irma

Diva Di is moored behind our canal home. Lots of surge will be an issue for sure. If the house is flooded, the boat will be the least of our worries.

Thanks for the good wishes; we need them.

Re: Maserator pump

Hi, Mac.

I know what you mean; when time is short, you can't be making a project out of it. Best thing (IMHO) is to replace the whole unit at this point, as you are doing.

Re: Maserator pump

Mac, On our previous boat, I had the bearings seize and needed to replace the entire unit. It used salt water to flush. On our PDQ, one of the previous owners wisely replaced the impeller macerator with a diaphragm pump that is reputed to be "bulletproof." Many in the PDQ community have re...

Re: PORT ENGINE IDLE TEMPERATURE

Buy an inexpensive infrared temp gun to check what the temps really are. I don't recall a disparity as the engines warm up.

Our canvas guy changed the foam from 2 inches to 3 and it was much better.

Re: Engine burns excessive oil at high RPM's

Mac, I am glad you mentioned the turbo. I must have repressed that horrible memory. The previous owner had the port turbo rebuilt and a yard installed it, probably very soon before it went up for sale in fall of 2014. Very shortly after I got the boat, but after the sea trials and survey, I noted a ...

Re: PDQ36 Haul Out Mass

It is in the wrong location per your request, but Merri-Mar in Newburyport did a great job for us. I will say that the haul-out, winterization, shrink-wrap, and recommissioning in the spring was an expensive deal in New England.

Re: Engine burns excessive oil at high RPM's

Well, it is interesting that it is your port engine. I say that because 95% of all the engine woes I have had in 10,000 plus miles have been with the port engine, and I know a number of other PDQ 34 owners who say the port engine gets way more than its share of problems compared to the starboard eng...

Re: remove raw water pump on northern lights generator

Roger,

Yes, the aft two bolts are accessed from the rear. One is easy to spot and the last one is not. You will need a socket and extension for them. I can't tell you how to find the bolt, but just keep trying and you will get it.

Re: Cabin window treatments

Bob, I guess from all the years of helming a sailboat where I had to look past the dodger supports, mast, dorades, etc., I simply learned to keep moving my head so that I could always see properly. Does ABYC have any comments on the wide mullions between the forward windows?
