Re: Vented loop re direct discharge

It hinges upon whether the bowl lip and top of the holding tank are above the waterline. I believe they both are (were on my PDQ 32), so no vented loops. Monohulls are different. That said, you may want to loop the hose just above the water line to reduce flow-back in the the bowl. The pump will mos...

Re: Anchor Bridle

Calculating the strnegth of the cleats is a matter of looking at the fixing boats and the backing plates. On the PDQs I've seen, the rope would probably break first, or at least not last long. They are stronger than anchoring loads require. As for the bending force on the bows, it is really quite sm...

Re: Can 2019/2020 manual tilt Yamaha 9.9s be used on a PDQ 36?

Try Andy Jr. at Shipyard Island Marina (800-213-3323). Many PDQ owners have gotten motors from him. He will adapt the handles and wiring harness so that it is a drop-in fit. http://sail-delmarva.blogspot.com/2012/08/new-engines.html This is the procedure. http://sail-delmarva.blogspot.com/2009/11/re...

I think it will really help your cause if you post pictures and probably create a blog or similar.

Good luck!

Re: What Dinghy

The PO glued the lifting eyes on (Defender Marine caries them). I added the holes in the wood floor. Also, the original spreader bar was plastic, and it failed while under spinnaker! Because I was single handing and it would have taken critical minutes to get the chute in and stop the boat, I just a...

Re: What Dinghy

A short strap on the transom and a spreader bar up front. I could get the dingy tight against the bars. With a soft floor, proper inflation and tricing under the dinghy (cris-cross lines) once it is up will be vital. (Although I now sail a Corsair F-24, I owned a PDQ 32 for many years and there is a...

Re: Microwave Addition

The most common problem with running a microwave off an inverter is that the power is too noisy. It needs to be a pure sine wave inverter, not modified sine wave. Short of replacing the inverter, there is no easy solution. Asa result, the microwave probably ran fine on shore power, but not from the ...

Re: Charging from Portable Generator

You don't need to disassembly the boom to fix the reefing lines. The blocks put a twist in them and as a result, they wind up in the middle. You can untwist the lines working with a flashlight from the boom end (because that is where 6the twist came from). This needs to be done every few years if yo...

You might want to investigate insurance. Many have a BIG jump south of the VA/NC border due to huricane risk.

Re: Water in Fuel Sensor

I'm guessing re. the PDQ installation, but... * The sensor is nothing more than a pair of copper stubs that allow conductivity (no float). There is little that can go wrong, other than get dirty. A wet connection can cause a false positive, as can a chafed wire. Could be a poor connection that fails...

65-pound electric? Easy. Ask them whether they would rather get exercise peddling or loading the bike themselves. If they snicker, suggest that means the needs is not sincere.

Electric? Really? Are you really going far enough that it will matter?

Re: Genoa and Assymetrical only speeds and handling

IMO, the self-tacking jib does not roller reef worth a damn. They never do, because the foot is too low, the clew angle is wrong, and you can't move the sheets aft. It just twists off and flogs. My genoa reefed down better. Add a third reef to the main. I did and found it very nice over about 30 kno...

Re: Genoa and Assymetrical only speeds and handling

Yup, that's how it is done.

I wouldn't fly a chute in a squall on a PDQ32. That's a good way to break something, if only stretching out an expensive sail. Not worth it.

Re: Genoa and Assymetrical only speeds and handling

Furling a genoa in 15-20 knots with no main is probably more vigorous than hoisting a reefed main and some jib. Certain, damamge is more likely. Same with a chute. If it's just for drifting in light air, then OK. But then you'll want the main if you want to sail past walking speed. I've sailed main ...

Re: Got a CPAP Aboard?

Rather than struggle with locating a shelf near the head of the bed, we strung extra hoses together to make a longer hose, which we then looped along the edge of the ceiling. Worked very well. This allowed us to leave the CPAP safely back on the night stand. I recall the hose was 3x4'=12'. It did no...
