Re: Backstay chainplate replacement

Has anyone replaced their backstay chainplate? If so, how easy was removing and replacing the nuts in the watertight compartment? Were you able to do it via the access panel in the stern step or did you have to make another access hole to reach the backside? It seems like the current access could be...

Re: PDQ 36 Rudders

Did you ever determine the correct bushing for the rudder? I have a little play in my starboard rudder and would like to fix it while we are hauled for the summer.

Re: Permission to Come Aboard

I'm in Titusville, Fl so unfortunately can't help you out with a tour. Running the boat singlehanded just takes some practice and is certainly doable. I like having my lines ran to the cockpit but with the stability of the boat if you have to go to the mast it isn't a big deal. Obviously auto-pilot ...

Re: PDQ 36 LRC Backstay question

I have corrosion on my backstay chainplates at the water line. I believe the PO used cheap stainless when the rigging was replaced several years ago which is why I now have a problem. I'll be replacing mine at next haul-out. I don't believe corrosion is a common issue when proper material is used on...

Gennaker Rigging

I finally got around to cleaning my bow lockers and found a North Sails G3 Gennaker. The sail looks to be in good condition but I have some questions about rigging. I’ve never flown a spinnaker/gennaker so any advice you all have is appreciated. I’m not racing but do want to sail a bit faster. Shoul...

Re: Backstay chainplate replacement

I'm going to do what I can to get the paint off and stainless cleaned up. We are in the water so that'll add to the difficulty but the corrosion I can see is now above the water line due to removing excess weight. I think I should use a plastic scraper as to not damage the metal; hopefully it'll be ...

Re: Backstay chainplate replacement

The corrosion is visible with the plate installed. The submerged portion was painted with bottom paint by the previous owner. Paint has flaked off where the corrosion is located making it visible. Supposedly the standing rigging was replaced three or four years ago. Everything appears to be in good ...

Backstay chainplate replacement

Like most of us my backstay chainplates are partially submerged. The lack of oxygen is causing corrosion on the chainplates and they will need replaced. Aside from hull extensions, has anyone figured out a way to get the chainplates out of the water? How often does a submerged chainplate typically l...

Re: Fridge compressor water intake location?

So after tracing the power and water lines I'm pretty confident the water option was never connected. Looks like the install was never finished and that's how it'll stay.

Thanks for everyones input.

Re: Fridge compressor water intake location?

We don't have AC nor does it appear the boat ever had AC. This will be something we will add at next haul-out. From what I've found online the Alder Barbour seawater kit was sold separately for their air/water cooled units. As SecondWind previously mentioned, PDQ installed Nova Kool units. So this w...

I'll play with the switch this weekend and see if it does anything other than light up.

Re: Fridge compressor water intake location?

To my knowledge there is no thru-hull on the port side of the boat. I can't find one via the inside of the boat, don't recall seeing one on the outside when she was on the hard, can't see one in any of the pictures I have, and the survey doesn't list one on the port side (only starboard). I'm convin...

Fridge compressor water intake location?

Where is/was the raw water intake for the fridge compressor on the PDQ 36? It's my understanding the Alder Barbour refrigeration unit can run on air or water; water being more efficient. Mine has a water control switch mounted by the refrigerator that connects to the compressor. Two water lines are ...

Re: Surveyor recommendation

We used Gary Frankovich with Accurate Marine Surveys Inc. He did a pre-purchase survey for us back in October and we were very impressed. Gary is friendly and knowledgeable. He is also very thorough, we had an in/out of water survey plus sea trail which took 10 hours. He has also surveyed many PDQs....

Re: PDQ 36 port windows- gasket

I look forward to your update Sam. I have hull 19 so if it fits your boat it should also fit mine. I have a couple leaky port lights that can use some attention.
