grounding rudders & shafts

hi all,

looking at the rudder on a mainship the other day, i noticed a ground wire running from the tiller clamp on the rudder post to the engine ground. this got me thinking. i know we don't have any on hull 23. did pdq add these later? is there a reason why they didn't use them?

Re: engine overheating (cont)

the engine that tripped the alarm (port) had never been apart in 2600 hours. it has had theyearly antifreeze changes and prestone flushing. i had the starboard heat exchanger "boiled" 3 years ago.

Re: on engine fuel filters.....off

hi all, i promised to post results but never did. i apologize. it's been the better part of 2 years since i moved the filters. i can report that since i moved them the warning light has not come on and that changing the filter has become much simpler with no spilled fuel. there have been no negative...

engine overheating (cont)

hi all, this was a hot topic a while back and wanted to give everyone an update. our engines (75s) have always run on the hot side and when we get into abacos and the water starts warming up they run even hotter. i replace the impellers yearly as well as antifreeze. a couple of weeks ago the dreaded...

Re: Head plumbing and holding tank questions?

also, make sure that the y-valve has no air leaks. if you don't have a perfect vacuum the ability to empty tank will be severely diminished.

also, west marine makes an enzyme based holding tank cleaner. i've used it and it does a good job of breaking down waste.

Re: Equalizing Battries

mike & linda, after 2 prosines failed we switched to an inverter/charger from victron systems. it has the "power assist" function that you mention. it senses a voltage spike and supplements the shorepower/genset power with battery power. it actually works and is transparent. it does di...

Re: Equalizing Battries

hi guys, we have a 34 powercat but have equalized batteries using the prosine 2000. we did this a couple of years ago so exact details are a little fuzzy. on our boat, charger directly charged house bank (4-T105). so to equalize we disconnected combiner and shut off all instruments and other drains....

Re: Holding tank pump out- help

hi,

we clogged the pipe between tank & macerator after we used west enzyme tank cleaner. it emulsyfied stuff to a oatmeal-like consistency and builtup at a 90 elbow. i would check for a jam at any sharp bend.

you can remove hose and use hose pressure to blow backwards.

Re: RETROFITTING A SILKSCREEN WINDOW

hi jim, first let me say that i'm not an engineer. with that said, i've done a lot of fiberglass work including installing hatches. i believe that you will be able to cut the hole w/o substantially affecting hull integrity. pdq people could tell whether there was any extra re-enforcement applied to ...

Chicago Barge Canal Closing?

hi all, this probably is interest only to "great loopers". i just read an article that there is a case going to the us supreme court to close the canal to stop the migration of asian carp north into lake michigan. the canal connects the lake to the mississippi river. it is the only way out...

Re: Fresh Water Pump.

hi guys,

a free pump is hard to refuse, but what about swapping for the equivalent jabsco model. i say this assuming there is nothing partially clogging the input line.
