Re: Hello from new owner

Bob,

Sorry, I was unclear. I meant is the steering wheel hard to turn while balancing the rudders?

Re: Hello from new owner

It does sound like a ram is stuck, but it could be the balancing valve itself. Is it hard to turn while balancing the rudders?

Re: 100hp yanmar starter replacement for pdq 34

I replaced the neutral safety switch on the port engine that had the switch problem. It is definitely something to check on.

Re: 100hp yanmar starter replacement for pdq 34

Kip, What are the symptoms? It might not be the starter. While in the Bahamas this past winter, I was suddenly unable to start the port engine. There was no other symptom such as slow starting or a grinding noise or anything like that. There was just nothing. Then I jiggled the ignition key vigorous...

Re: $ blade prop pitch changes

John, We have the 75 HP engines with 4 blade props. I consulted a prop specialist soon after we bought the boat. He said the pitch was about right. Darn it, I can't remember exactly what the pitch is right now, but I think it is 16x14. Weight aft does make a difference. When you say another set of 6...

Re: novacool fridge

Mac, It sounds like your wiring job was easier and smarter than mine. Just reading the earlier posts, I see that the locker over the genset tank on your boat is vented. Mine is not, though it would not be hard at all to put a vent in there. They are all just a little different. Thanks for the post. ...

Re: novacool fridge

Duane, I went to the distribution panel and unhooked the wire from the breaker for the fridge. Then I used quite a bit of tape to connect the existing wire to the new 10 gauge 2 conductor wire that was 30 feet long (8 gauge would be better). I went into the starboard hull aft of the steps and looked...

Re: novacool fridge

All, Well after some head scratching and measuring, I found that I could put the little five inch fan on the support deck for the fridge with an inch to spare fore and aft. I cut a five inch hole in the support deck behind the fridge, and mounted the fan inside the fridge compartment, blowing up. Th...

Re: Galley Sink Replacement

Nick, We once replaced a sink on a 38 sailboat. It had two identical basins that were 8 inches deep like a lot of sailboats. They were stainless steel and always kind of dull and dirty looking no matter what we did. There were a couple of pans we could not wash (easily) in there. We switched to a si...

Dick,

A picture of the upgraded installation would be helpful for comparison.

Re: novacool fridge

All, This has gotten interesting for me. Sure enough, the fridge slide right out after I took out four screws. The power cable was plenty long enough for this. I was able to slide the fridge out until the front edge was even with the separator between the sinks. Plenty of room to crawl under and loo...

Re: novacool fridge

Before starting this project, I am wondering why no one has put the fan in the bulkhead into the genset locker forward. That locker is vented so that the genset can breath and it is much larger. I have not gotten into this yet so maybe that bulkhead is too hard too reach?

Re: Electric gremlin

Brendan, I have 120 volts at the panel. My power cord and splitter are new. I think I just have a worn out breaker. The fact that it also blows the main breaker for the whole panel had me worried. After some study, I realized that these are, I think, just magnetic breakers. I do not think they are &...

Re: Electric gremlin

John and Dianne, Well, here we go again. We moved from one marina to another. When we plugged in, no problems. The voltage from the dock was 115 instead of 120 at the previous marina. It might have something to do with overall power quality. Possibly, not such a pure sine signature in all locations?...

Re: Electric gremlin

That could be the safer approach. Breakers are not too expensive, so I will try that first. Thanks.
