Re: Transmission Maintenance Schedule

Thanks Rafe. The prop guy had similar comments. Since the boat will be out of the water anyway, the prop guy has said we should bring the props in to check for damage. Then we will go from there.

Re: Rule Bilge pump failure

I was in the engine room tracing some wiring for something else when I noticed the float switch for the high water alarm. I had never bothered to test it so I crawled on there and lifted it up. I did not hear anything so I propped it up with a block of wood and crawled out. At the breaker panel, I s...

Re: Transmission Maintenance Schedule

Well, after finding nothing on the port transmission, l checked the starboard. Sure enough, there was the little plate proclaiming ZF-25. Gear ratio for the “A” and “B” positions are 1.97. Wonder what happened to the port side label? I will let you know how the repitching goes. Tim M/V 068 Expatriate

Re: Transmission Maintenance Schedule

I am thinking of having my props repitched. Currently, under power with the 75 hp engines, I can only reach about 2800 RPM. There may be other factors such as total load of fuel and water. However, an inch of pitch off both props is not a huge change and it may keep the port engine from running on t...

Re: Hard Top?

I am having a hardtop built by Atlantic Towers. They have built them for the PDQ 34 before once or twice. Anyway, Atlantic Towers can build the hard top to fit the boat without even seeing the boat. They claim that my top will weight about 200 lbs. I think that is pretty light. I expected it to be m...

Re: Port engine stopped charging

I guess this is as good a place to post this as any. Sometimes while cruising, after running for a while, the red idiot light on the panel that has a picture of a battery on it comes on and flickers. I do not know exactly what this indicates, but I assume it means that the voltage output from the al...

Re: Plumbing tubing

I went back to have a look and refresh my memory. The strainer is upstream of the solenoid valve. So it protects the valve from any debris in the freshwater system. Usually there is not much, but sometimes a little scale and calcium builds up.

Re: Plumbing tubing

Actually, I think it was downstream of the solenoid valve. Not sure, I will go back and look. I took it apart, and it was as clean as new. I put it back together nice and tight and it did not leak. I converted my toilet to sea water for the Bahamas. I had to add a pump for sea water, about 3 gallons...

Re: Plumbing tubing

I had a small amount of water collecting under the starboard side of the U-shaped settee at the aft end. I looked and looked under there and then removed the medicine cabinet in the head and looked some more. I thought it odd that, in the pressure side of the fresh water system, going to the head, t...

Re: OVEN ALTERNATIVE

I have baked on a grill, but only if it had two or more burners. I bake with one burner on and one off with the food on the "off" side. My boat grill only has one burner of course, but it does have an upper rack. I "baked" a pork tenderloin on the upper rack with good results, bu...

Re: OVEN ALTERNATIVE

John,

We have the 2005 with the new galley. There is more counter space, but still not a lot compared to some boats I have owned.

Re: OVEN ALTERNATIVE

Jan, That is a pretty good solution. If I remove the convection microwave, and replace it with a propane oven, I have considered installing a very (very) small microwave oven on the counter top somewhere. Small enough to run on the inverter. It would probably have to live in a root cellar also. Tim

Re: Shower Pump Switch

My shower sump switch failed in the Bahamas. I could not find a switch down there, so I hot wired it to the breaker. I leave the breaker off all the time. When I get out of the shower, I go to the panel and turn on the breaker for a minute. I can tell from the sound when the shower is empty. I may i...

Re: OVEN ALTERNATIVE

In our 2005, hull 68, we have a convection microwave. When we go to the Bahamas, we anchor out all the time. We have to run the gen set to use the oven. In addition we have had some difficulty adapting to the way it cooks. We have decided to go to a propane oven. There is an oven only unit from Fran...

Re: Yanmar fuel economy

I have the 75 hp engines, but here are my two cents. We came from Staniel Cay in the Exumas to Bimini, 197 miles on 51 gallons of diesel. No tricks, both engines running, averaging 6.5 knots. Two rough, by a lot, to plane. Also the boat handles well going off the wind in six foot following seas. Che...
