Re: Nova Kool (Replaced)

Mac - I had the same problem last year - no need to remove the window. It’s a fairly straightforward job of drilling & tapping for a new machine screw. Just don’t slip working so close to the glass - you could tape a small square of 1/4” plywood next to the frame to help protect the glass. Go sl...

Spam/Virus Warning! - TideSeals

Received a real-looking e-mail from Skip at TideSeals with an important PDQ powercat notification. After having trouble opening it, I checked with Skip & he said he was hacked, so just DELETE!

Re: PSS Seal Size or Part Number

Doug, I also have an ‘06 & had the same ongoing Tide Seal dilemma. Not to rehash the entire PDQ/Tide Seals issues (you’ve probably read extensively on this forum & including Dick’s advise), but if you’re pulling the shafts, replacing the cutlass bearings & shaft seals, you should definit...

Re: wiper arms?

Mostly confirming what others have said regarding windshield wiper motor replacement (based on my 2006): The correct motor (see below) is the Marinco #34000 MRV Heavy Duty Motor w/ 2 1/2" shaft & 80 degree sweep angle The correct arm (if pantographic) is the Marinco #33037A Deluxe Adjustabl...

Weatherstripping for cabin sliding screens

When re-painting the cabin rear side screens (in the sliding windows - NOT the phantom screen) I ripped out the weatherstripping, thinking I would just replace it. Unfortunately, it appears to be an unique size no one sells. While it is typical slide-in pile weatherstripping, it is only .15” wide. I...

Re: Fuel Vent Gurgle?

Ahhhh ... we hear the same occasional gurgling noise. I had thought it must be battery acid gurgling or something, but the diesel vent makes MUCH more sense - in particular the Racor fuel/air vent separator in the vent line which is basically 2’ away when lying in bed. We hear the gurgling mostly at...

Re: Cutlass Bearing Replacement

Finding my port Tides seal beginning to leak & with the shaft visibly whipping at high speeds, I thought I’d make an attempt at checking the engine alignment. As I carefully disconnected the flexible shaft coupling, I was surprised when the shaft dropped down onto the bilge floor like a lead wei...

Re: Effective Fuel

I’d be curious, in a fuel emergency, could you access some of the extra fuel in the auxiliary tank? If you shut the genset valve off (so it doesn’t drain & of course not use it), remove the pickup tube of the transfer pump & add a length of rubber tubing to reach further down into the tank -...

Re: Effective Fuel

Nick- I’m sure you’ll get more exacting info from people like James Power or Dick & there may be some variation depending on exact pickup tube depth. Going by our experience, the useable fuel is quite limited. The main tank: Once we got very low - the gauge had shown empty for over a hour & ...

Re: Original LPG tanks

We just went through this last fall when attempting to refill our “expired” tanks - Another option if in the Vero Beach area: I would recommend Como Oil & Propane. They re-certified (with an official receipt & decals on the tanks) AND filled both tanks for only $27.00 - I was pleasantly surp...

Re: Removing Flybridge icemaker

John, This was one of our first projects when we bought Twin Sisters. We decided an icemaker wasn't needed, but we would need extra fridge space rather than extra storage, so we replaced the icemaker with a small Engel #SB47F-MK fridge, typical of Sea Rays & such. The opening size is different, ...

Re: A Second Depth Sounder

Another possible fix for your DSM-300 issue (if being inputted to your Ray Marine chartplotter) could be the settings on your chartplotter. My depth worked only intermittently for 3 years (& the previous owner’s 2 years), so I added a separate depth sounder in the starboard hull to use instead. ...

The correct one should be the “D”. I’ve been purchasing then from BoatZincs.com as their “Nut-D-Alum.” prop anodes.

Re: Rudder safety warning!!!

This is our rudder from our mid-2006 (hull #100) model. There is a collar on top of this glassed-in board with one bolt thru into the collar & one protruding out - I assume this is the updated design?

Re: novacool fridge

Nick & Barb, This can be a very involved question/answer! Your Nova Kool freezer/fridge is not the “ideal” unit, with it’s single compressor attempting to keep both compartments at proper temps, with minimal insulation thrown in. I’ve outlined some things I’ve done here: https://esc-pod.com/pdq-...
