Got any specs on the battens?

I had that impression too. But I wouldn't want to invest much in that without being sure.

I would very much appreciate any information you can easily scare up.

Thanks.

It all fits in!

All this talk about sail stretch and recutting etc... has me feeling terribly ignorant. I also run with the topping lift set all the time but the lift line goes slack when I raise the main, even when reefed. Is this okay? Also, my jib has quite a bit of twist in it and the top often flutters. The t...

Re: Slack Leach on the Main

Its not that complicated. More sail area, more power. How you set it is up to you and the situation. You've got the topping lift idea backwards; It relieves the leach. Yes, I understand about the toping lift very well; what I do not understand is what other practices may have occured. No matter. I ...

Re: Slack Leach on the Main

I will check the battens, but I think it is more than that. The cloth still seem to have good body and resin. It seems stiff enough. I find myself wondering if some manner of abuse, such as keeping the topping lift on all of the time (PO told my this was their practice - no kidding), led to unequal ...

The outboard noise is not high in pitch.

It is more like the noise from a larger inboard and is not difficult to talk over inside. Also, at 6 kn you are only at ~ 1/2 throttle. Full throttle is ~ 7.4 kn.

Slack Leach on the Main

Anytime the wind passes ~15 knots the leach just folds over as though there were no battens. I don't think it is a trim issue - I have been sailing for 25 years. I think it is a leach stretch issue. Tightening the leach line helps a tick, but it is way beyond that. The PO was sailing with the toppin...

No thank you

Congratulations: you have experienced initiation ordeal #1. As the current record holder for the number of Initiation #1 experiences, I urge you not to try for the record. It frequently involves buying a new prop! I think I told you that I lost a prop on the delivery trip (just spun...PO had...

Yes, that is what I was sugesting...

Though your sketch makes more sense. But the surgery would be frightening! It is not engine noise exactly, it vibration transfered to the cored structure of the boat. The Seawind, for example, does not use the engine tilt - it has a bracket that goes up-an-down. That would solve 2 problems: noise an...

Why not a simple $12 aquarium pump?

We do fish, and though I have not used live bait often, when we do we use a bucket and an aquarium pump. When not in the bucket, the aquarium pump is in a simple 2 1/2 gallon aquarium my daughter (budding biologist) uses to collect small critters. It sits calmly on the shelf in her bunk. When it get...

I do have a hint I have pondered...

My stiletto was even more of a guitar box than the PDQ - Nomex honey comb with little bracing structure. It was deafening down below when sailing in rough conditions. Yet the engine tones were not bad. The engine is not mounted to the boat directly - it is on a metal bracket cantilevered off the rea...

Yeah, sounds like a couple of big deisels!

The difficulty is that most of the noise is nice guitar frequencies that the cored construction picks up wonderfully. Unless you can come up with a mount that will damp the correct frequencies - and that is complex and not simply a matter of rubber pads - I doubt it. The engine compartment foam apro...

Dometic frig troubleshooting.

The info in the owners manual was quite limited, past posts seem limited to other types, so I throw myself upon mercy of the group. Does not run on 12v or 120v. Runs on propane * lightS easily * sometimes gets fairly cold and makes ice * And sometimes not. They are quite pricey to replace and gettin...

Why not like an in-water bowsprit... upsidedown.

A line to each bow (beam end?) and lash it (or other mount as apropriate) to a boat hook and stick down at the back edge of the tramp. a few feet below the WL? I like your first idea; perhaps I would hinge it forward, pulling it up with a tackle, but letting the pressure of the water press it back i...

I understand that completely, and it is beautifully done.

I would agree, though about the window. Add it! The hard top on my 32 has 2 window - 1 each side. I never use the port window, never remove the cover. The starboard I use constantly. Roll the dice. I would never have trusted my ability to get that fit. I beleive I would have chickened out and used a...
