Re: Genoa and Assymetrical only speeds and handling
I suppose I've always been something of a sail trim maven. I like to to feel the boat move to perfection. I suppose that is why I tweaked the sail plan and underbody. Unless you are trying to sail with the AW aft of 120 degrees, the main should actually help the chute fill, by keeping the flow attac...

Re: Genoa and Assymetrical only speeds and handling
There is quite a bit of PDQ 32 trim stuff on my blog. Genoa Upwind. You are not going to be able to point to windward with more than ~ 120% genoa. This is because you need to sheet up against the hard top, which means rolling up some genoa. With a 180, the sail shape with probably be horrible after r...

I'm glad the Re-Move worked out. I enjoy testing things so that we can all benefit. Many products say they will remove polyurethane cauk=lk, but only Re-Move really does.

Re: original construction materials
My boat had both balsa and foam core. One transom was balsa, the other foam. Decks foam, bulkheads a mix of foam and balsa. All of it was very solid, though, with no bad spots.

Re: New Owner - Bulb Part #'s
Just a few thoughts. * 15 hp. No you will not get more power and you will get less in reverse. The Yamaha 9.9 really is the right motor. I've used other motors and they just aren't as good. * Solar is much more effective than engine charging when you have a big hardtop. You don't run enough engine h...

Modify a bike rack. You can also buy them for rails. http://sail-delmarva.blogspot.com/2010/07/how-to-carry-bicycles-without-origami.html http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_fDLXryKUnCE/TEIPBLsqXaI/AAAAAAAAAkw/phGSaOUVyCQ/s1600/Bike+Rack.jpg Kayaks can go on top of the davits (they were low on my PDQ 32). Re: Fuel Pick up tube problem
Was it a genuine Parker/Raycor element? They should NEVER distort under vacuum, and I have changed many hundreds in industry, many of which were tragically dirty and high vacuum. If it deformed, dirt got past it. If the injector pump is bad, that may be the reason. There should be a filter on the en...

Re: Boat Yoga
I always found that padding all of the hard spots with multiple towels made boat yoga go a lot better. You think "it will just be a moment," and then some bulkhead or bump tries to cut you in half. Take the extra time to plan.

Re: Winterizing Water System
Shop vac, or if your forearms are slim, you can bail it out with a cut-down soda bottle within 10 minutes. No, 1/2-inch won't matter. 2 inches, I'm not so sure, so I always emptied it. I always liked to give it a good slosh around, a light scrub, and then vac it dry. Leave the port open, it would dr...

Re: Dingy motor hoist
I've always been of the opinion that if I have to take the motor off, the motor is too big or the davits need improved. Not worth the trouble to take the motor off, no way. The boat works for me, not me for the boat. You might consider tricing the dinghy, with lines under it to help support the weig...

Re: PDQ 36 Capsize
Take it easy. First, in my very next post I said that I did not have much PDQ 36 experience and that I accepted that he said about the PDQ 36 in its entirety. I did not question any statement he made. So that issue is done. I'm not looking for a fight. As for the PDQ 32, I sailed one for a long time...

PDQ 36 Capsize
I'm assuming most of you saw this thread: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2980865#post2980865 It starts stupid, but post 50 gives good information. The take away is to drop all sail when you see black clouds. Trying to sail through squalls is just a fools game based on too many ...

Re: Corroded holding tank access plate
They probably used 3M 5200 or a similar polyurethane. Try Re-Move / DSR5. Apply, slit along, the seam, recoat, and wait. I would try this before cutting. Uniseal ( https://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=89951 is the one I am familiar with. But I would try Re-Move first. If you replace th...

Re: Need help with repair of water in keel of a 36
No. By fairing I meant eliminating the blunt trailing edge, which really detracts from windward performance. (this article is about a PDQ 32) https://www.practical-sailor.com/issues/37_67/features/Fairing-the-Keels_12039-1.html The PDQ keels have a very blunt rear edge (over 1 inch). This should be ...

The tank appears to be fiberglass; you can see the fabric.
For the record, aluminum is a terrible material for holding tanks and anything related to sewage. Urine eats it up. The brass didn't help.
